QR Technology?

This is pretty hard core - it's like a barcode that can trigger off your webcam (or your mobile phone or whatever) to display url's, flash type animations etc.. Check out this example which utilises it for a Valentines advertising campaign:

Anyone know how it works or what the history is? Pretty cool technology at least.

We've be using it at work for a little while now, we're implementing on our next print of business cards also.

Yeah we did some work with a greeting card company a while back who were going to put QR codes on their display racks so a single photo of a whole rack would automatically know what needed ordering (a displayed code meant no card in that spot).
Not sure if it was implemented or not in the end.

There's some kiwi sorts involved in research with this stuff, one use case i saw demoed at a conference last year was making a childrens book with these codes in. in conjunction with fancy "virtual reality" glasses, animated elements would appear to hover above the book, in a virtual pop-up fashion. was pretty nifty. will see if i can dig out the paperwork from that gig.
