[quote]
Fuck, Id forgotton about Discharge.
Love Miinor Threat too!!
[quote]
Minor Threat are more hardcore I'd suggest, or proto emo as their second incarnation attests
[quote]
Proto-emo....shhhhh Bob, otherwise the electro kids will think its a new genre.
[quote]
...and where do you stand on hardcore?
British and American.
[quote]
I love The Exploited but they are kinda metallyish.
Ian Dury - Punk or not?

[quote]
Exploited? yeah, but that metal weight made them stand out.
[quote]
exploited have become meetal after years of just being dicks - like some of their music but ya can't take them seriously, cause they is dicks

me I like (not love... thats reserved for punk) hardcore, both sides of the atlantic... but the real crazy shit came out of south america and spain

Ian Dury - pub rock with intelligence IMO - so looking forward to the movie about him
[quote]
might be at the Auckland film fest in July? That and the Banksy movie "Exit Through The Gift Shop" are most anticipated.
[quote]
I like The Stooges.. do they count?
[quote]
as part of the punk rock movement, I'd suggest not - forerunners of yep, file alongside MC5 for awesomeness

[quote]
Ian Dury came out as punk in the sense he's an ugly deformed anti-estab kinda guy so yeh definitely. A lil bit skinhead but not really.
I've always been into punk since the late 70's , for some reason I just loved the Ramones even though they were the comic book version of punk , well specially the third album 'Rocket to Russia'

I recently added Television's first album Marquee Moon to the CD collection , having had the vinyl back in the day. This is viewed as punk due to its CBGB association and it is a bit punk but in some ways its more skilled than you expect of p[unk and uses guitar melody too much but certainly has a wired egde to it so perhaps thats enough to be punk.
Amazing album seriously recommended

Played The Strokes first album today 'Is This It' , its the first time I've heard them so I dunno if its punk but on first listen maybe a bit.
[quote]
oh and yeh the Stooges are definitely punk , dont you think so bob_d ? Iggy was - surely.
[quote]
Ok so at what point does punk/hardcore become metal?
For me its the drumming (more solid) and a bit more precision in regards to conviction when playing,
and a weightier production.
[quote]
the same point breaks becomes house - never, metal comes out of the traditional rock camp... punk is a reaction to that world, stylistically metal has a much bigger emphasis on players being actual musician and the ability with ones weapon, some of them emtal bands are technically amazing as you are well more aware than me, whereas I always figure if a punk/hardcore band can play real well thats a unexpected bonus and sometimes a turn off
"His unconventional methods are recalled by Mark Wood from Universal who recalls, 'My friend, a journalist, spent the night drinking with him in Soho House a couple of years ago. At the end of the night he INSISTED on giving her his card and said "We MUST keep in touch". In the morning when she woke up and rummaged for said card it just had "Malcolm McLaren" written on it - no number, email, nothing else!""

The latest Bad Religion or Proaghandi album?
I think I know what you mean, both of these albums are really good, but it's almost like they have moved on beyond their sound,
and have become boring (well to me).
[quote]
neither of them, not my world them lot

I'd like to have a beer with you one day mr Knight

Oh my god Ive missed this. Just found it on vinyl after moving house. Love it soooooo much. Should be listed as hardcore however.

Enjoy the razor sharp guitars, the urgency of the vocals (in fact the urgency of the whole song, somethings wrong people, we gotta fix it, in a
positive non "I like to cut my self way), the crazy 32nd flams the drummer does (which became his trademark), and the production which sounds like a metal track, adding to the overall weight of the whole album really. Ok enuff talking.....more rock.
[quote]
Oh my lord LeKnight, Ive just listened to that song and by jolly your right. Its a cracker.
