now im not sure if im being a complete tard here but i just got my brand new cdj800 and i cant get it to read disks first tryed an mp3 file no go so switched to a normal audio file and still not working any suggestions
[quote]
unless there's a new version like the 1000 mk3, the 800 won't play mp3's or read files - if you want to play mp3's you'll need to burn them as an audio cd using the likes of Toast or similar
[quote]
Try a commercially released CD as opposed to burnt numbers for starters...
[quote]
yeah have tryed a commercially released cd and that works. but cdj800 does actually support mp3 files so i dont know wtf and like i say i tryed an audio file

The CDJ 800 MARK II supports MP3 - are you sure you got a MK II???

Is it not playing CD Audio burnt discs either?

I think they will only play dependant on the type of filing you use. Are they in a folder on the CD?

Also, not sure if the 800 supports variable bit-rate MP3s.. (someone know?).

Yeah, and probably one one folder down...

OK.. looked at the CDJ800 mk2 manual. It can play varible bit-rate MP3s so that's not the problem. And it can access folders - how many levels deep it can handle I'm not sure.

Have you checked to see if it is a MKII? If it's not, there's your problem...

A DJ resource site I found says this about the CDJ800mk2:

quote:
o Use CBR to compress
o Give clear filenames
o Add ID3 tags before burning
o Burn CD's at a low speed (4x or 8x)
o Use folder as less as possible
( I only use folders in the root)

aside from the fact I expect it would have the model number on the top right of the face, the original 800 is more of a darkish grey colour, where I think the mark II is more of an aluminium look...

just as an aside, would you guys recommend getting a CDJ800 or CDJ1000 to learn on at home? Can you justify spending an extra $1000 on the 1000? Even tho its generally whats on offer in clubs? not the 800?

I have one of each - the main upside on the 1000 is the track view, good when playing new tunes you're not entirely familiar with as you can see the breakdowns coming. The other is if you want to store loops etc as you can take your flash card with you when you play out. Those two features aside, theres very little difference in feel as far as playing goes in my opinion.

The 3 hot cues are cool too.

You can save info to your flash card, plug said card into any other MKIII 1000 and BANG, all your cue points, hot cues and loops are at your disposal.

Nothing wrong with the 800 though.

In all seriousness, you shouldn't need a shop salesman to tell you if it's a Mk2 or not - it says it in big bold letters at the top.

Here is a pic:

If yours doesn't say MkII at the top right or is a darker grey than this then you have a Mk1.
Let us know that first and we'll go from there Very Happy
