Population about to reach 4million

Tomorrow, New Zealands population is expected to reach the 4million mark at about 5.30pm!!!

i rememeber back in form 2 (7years ago) we were only about 3.3million, so our population has pretty much risen 100,000 a year!

with the increase of the population do you think we should start bringing in population controlls, e.g children limits, tighter migration numbers?

I read in the NZHerald that the increase in population has generally been from natural increase (ie births/deaths) than migration. I sorta find that hard to believe, in Auckland's case anyway.

TV1 news stated that the main factor that got us to 4mill so quickly was the immigration. How big can this country get in the future? 5,6,7+ mill?

4.8 million is expected to be the max population (excluding a large immigration boom).

Zenith - wrong 3.3 million was not the figure 7 years ago, more like 3.7-3.8.

heresy - that was talking about the growth from 3 to 4 million. In the last 5 or so years that may not be the case.

yeah, it's not entirely true..

I can't remember the exact figures but it was something like either 4 or 45 new permanent residents arrive in auckland every day or something hence the strain oon our waste systems (water/rubbish etc).

How does that make that statement not entirely true

..



because in Aucklands case it is predominantly from immigration, as opposed to the above statement.

well im sure we can all look forward to more bumper to bumper traffic and longer traffic hours especially because most of the additional population will be of driving age already.

grrrr, we need new roads now, a large population increase is just adding to the problem

Even in auckland the majority of increase would be from people coming to auckland from other parts of NZ rather than immigration from overseas.
