This thread is to vent your anger at any unfair fines you have received.

Myself: 2 weeks ago I was driving from hamilton to ak. There was very little traffic on the read. I was in the right hand lane on the motorway for quite some time (no cars to overtake and no cars behind me). Got pulled over by a cop. Apparently its law to always keep left unless overtaking aka "failing to keep to the left".

I got fined for kicking a car thats alarm was going incessantly. Even though the alarm was pretty annoying I can understand that I would cop a fine.

But the fine cost more than the car was worth. Thats bullshit.

One thing I noticed recently when driving Waikato/Auck way was the amount of drivers that do this. Seriously WTF can't you just get back in the left lane?

I was dropping my kid at school...they had some parking nazi giving tickets for parking and shit I was so far down the road and just pulled into a driveway to turn around to park..the parking thing actually ran down the middle of the road to give me a fucking ticket for blocking the footpath for 2 nanoseconds even though there were no kids around ... fuck that pissed me off oh and they didnt hand me the ticket just ran up close enough to read my plate and I got it in the post .... I dont care if they were in the right it was a cunty thing to do...I hate weird people who think that is ok ..

One thing I really liked about my drive from London to Edinburgh was that people kept to the left. After they passed a car/truck they got back in the left lane. Such a change from the inconsiderate drivers you have in NZ. Maybe they actually enforce it there and it's made a difference?

I've only ever had one fine and it was a sneaky van camera that got me 61 in a 50. Revenue making bullshit. But I've only had one so... *shrug*

My flatmate got a fine for going 55 in a 50 zone down Bond st in kingsland which is a really steep hill.

Until people dangerously overtake and cause crashes.

One of my pet hates is people sitting in the fast lane but if there truly were no cars around then it is a bit officious of the cop.

I got a speed camera fine at 61km/h once.
Not a fine but my flatmate got arrested for saying the letters FTP to one of his mates at normal speaking volume (i.e. not shouted - surprised they even heard) on Thursday night as he walked past some bully boy pigs harassing someone for waving an Amercian flag around after the USA-Russia game... So much for freedom of speech, it's a shame he's too young and stupid to really fight the charge properly as I'd love to see the pigs justify this one in court. I'm using the term pigs here because clearly those cops are pigs and not policemen.

That hill takes you onto a motorway overbridge so it's not quite the same as a residential area, a lot of people will hit over 60 by the time they reach the bottom, hence the police occasinally cite a camera there, getting done for 55 must have been a holiday. It's annoying but just one of those things you have to accept as there is fairly strong correlation between even small increases in speed and accidents and injuries.

Speeding under the threshold on a hill is generally acceptable to most I would think?

Yes but i think on a number of public holidays recently they have lowered the acceptable threshold for a 50 km/h area from 60 down to 55.

Why would up a hill be considered acceptable, but not going down? Shorter braking distances maybe? I was speaking from the viewpoint that when going down a hill it's a lot easier to inadvertently and momentarily speed up due to the forces of gravity

Bond St overbridge, while having a large stretch of non-residential, is STILL a 50km/h suburban street, which is narrow and heavily used by pedestrians. Like anywhere else, the speed limit should be enforced regardless of a driver being too fucking stupid to maintain control of the vehicle on a grade.

Obviously braking distances heh, that's what the speeding laws are all about right? I'm only allowed to go 50k/h because they've determined that will leave me enough time to have an adequate braking distance if there's trouble ahead. Logically, that means it's safer to speed up-hill (than downhill).

being done for 55 I would advise taking to court as cam would have been mobile (less accurate) and not fixed unless hand held radar, in which case still a good chance cops wouldn't defend such a minor infraction by tying up a skilled operator in court time for uncertain gain but expect them to take it to line

It gets all the unregistered, unwarranted cars off the roads, it nabs the drivers with outstanding fines, it nabs the cars registered to disqualified drivers possibly nabbing said disqualified driver, too, it nabs all the stolen cars...if you haven’t been breaking the law such that you’re in the Db, it means nothing to you, if you have, suck it the fuck up, dickwad

Ok Mary Mary, if it is the overtaking lane presumably you will be going faster then the people you are overtaking which means its is the fast lane. The law is the law, well police are expected to use some common sense when issuing tickets - or even pursuing convictions, even when the law has been clearly broken. So it is not the law is the law in an absolute sense.

I dont like the registration thing as you have already incurred the debt even if you havent got the slip of paper so even if its a month out you shouldnt get a fine (unless its for interest on outstanding debt).

Also no, a camera reading the publicly displayed licence plate on your car while you drive down a public street is NOT intrusive.

I got an $80 or $150 fine for riding a bike with no helmet when I was living in Dunedin years ago. Was pretty filthy at the time because it was late, no was around and the only person I would've hurt would have been myself.. I felt that was pretty unjust. Also in Dunners had to use diversion and cop a $500 fine for taking a piss down an allyway miles away from anyone and way off george st.. Still to this day think that was some major bullshit. All respect to cops, they have a hard job and all that but imo I think a core element of there job is straight direct revenue generation

What I'd like to see is a clear line as to where the fines cash goes. Ideally, it should be reinvested into fixing the problems that caused the fine in the first place i.e. alcohol abuse, road education etc etc. It would stop people claiming fines as some sort of revenue gathering exercise.

It was an absolute victimless crime and a waste of police and the courts time - police resources would've been far better spent better else where. Public urination is a bit of a joke IMO, if you're not pissing on something that will have to be cleaned or if you and it's tomething that deserves to be pissed on (rotaries, FX-GT etc) , I for one think epic public pisses with high risk or difficulty factor shoul dbe applauded, otherwise we'd never make any progress.

personally I don't think people should be charged for peeing in rural remote areas, but technically, it's still an offence - but one would hope police would use discretion if you were so unlucky as to be seen/caught
