Anybody here heard of / like plaid (warp records)? and what would be reactions if Plaid were to come to nz? would Y'all check em out?
let me know..

[quote]
plaid are good...
however i think you'd have alot of trouble selling obscureish warp artists to nz crowds... maybe aphex twin or squarepusher but probably not plaid.
[quote]
I would say that I would attend just about any gig for a Warp label artist. I think in the end the cost would be the decider.

Two Lone Swordsmen would be someone I am busting to see...

And andy weatherall and and and........
[quote]
well one in the same.....

I think Plaid would be sellable, but very difficult and risky. You'd have to work all the strands in, very high profile media attention and slick warp look - but it'd be the first real electronic pioneer of the magnitude, which would work in it's favor.
Aphex Twin would be massive.
[quote]
Im currently talking to their management who are keen as mustard to get em over here. Risky sure, but it has to start somewhere yknow.

oh and nikolai, andy weatherall would be next on the agenda but one thing at a time. Smile

[quote]
i like your attitude. risk is a factor but the gamble cab pay off. maybe market it a bit more sexy and a little less tecky so as to attract a broader crowd.
[quote]
cab??? i mean can.
spelling is not my strong point!
[quote]
Oh yeah man I'd definitely be keen, I love plaid's stuff.

From a selling point it would be difficult though because they arent hugely known, the name wouldn't be a drawcard the way a squarepusher etc would. The hardcore warp fans would surely go though and theres definitely a few of them round.

Personally I'd like to see kid606 or Max Tundra come down but yeah anything of that nature I would check Smile

I'd love to see Plaid live... such brilliant musicians!

but I agree...they do have a low profile over here,
but who said promoting wasn't a risky business?

good luck Infinitum!

cheers for all the positivity!
im not expecting to make any money off it, just the opposite in fact, but fuck it.
[quote]
from experience i can say that losing money on gigs whether it be organising them or djing at them is the most surefire way you'll have heaps of fun.
all the best things i've done including parties i've helped organise have lost money but certainly havn't been failures.
have you thought about co-operating with an australian promoter? basically you can cover y'self a bit by sharing the costs like that.
[quote]
plaid would be wikked! Very Happy
[quote]
I think you could be surprised by the types that would turnout to an act like Plaid

Market into the rock camp and electronica crowd and tack on the dance community for good measure, they appeal to music fans not ya average dance crowd

Put them in a venue that is people friendly and not overly fussed on what people wear - with a good, well priced bar and watch the beer disappear

keep ticket price as low as possible to grab the interested but not sure crowd

finally have them play at a time that is civil (i.e not 3 am)

Potential for gig of the year Smile

Good luck and I for one hope it happens

[quote]
cheers man, its looking more and more likely, and theres the strong possibility of Boards of Canada doing the mission over as well.
wait for it.. 2003 will be a good year for music here.
[quote]
boards of canada!
jezuuus man, thats huge!

just make sure they somehow pass thru melbourne as well!!!!
[quote]
lemme know if you need Melb promoters to help spread the cost

the Fokus crew over there might be interested
[quote]
Fucking hell the BoC would be legendary. They have quite a big name, if they came it would have drawing power.

I thought they were like scottish hermits or something though? Anyhow that would be wicked Smile
[quote]
chunky : i'll let ya know when they confirm but that sounds like a plan.
[quote]
we'ren't they bjork's backing band when she
came out a few years ago?
[quote]
Yeah Dick, and they did a plaid set first
[quote]
oh yeah and of course they used to be called Black dog before Plaid too, but i think they had sum other guy in the group fer that. Either way black dog are mitey fine
[quote]
ye-ah!

i'd definately be there to see plaid (or any thing warp). specially if they played squance. that track is like some wonderful new blue monday.
[quote]
bump - any updates news?
[quote]
