Hey all.

Last weekend i took my turntables (1210s) to my friends house to add into his system, (2 x cdj mk3 + allen & heath xone 92).however i noticed that to get my levels the same as the cdjs the gains had to be way past 12 o'clock. and i mean way past like almost full blast which i was very uncomfortable doing!

also the technics didnt sound half as clear as they should next to the cdjs

I have ortofon night club E needles which arent very old at all and have only been used when playing out etc (not at home in the bedroom whilst practising)

any ideas anyone

*posted this in here cos no-one reads the dj tech section by the looks of things![/i]

solution : get a rane empath Very Happy

but seriously, have you tested this set up on a diff mixer? checked for extra gain switches/pots anywhere?

got your decks connected to the phono ports instead of the line ports?

allen and heaths are so fuckin confusing...i have had at least 3 sound guys just go blank when i get them to explain the "aux" pots

Yo... I have that exact setup... 2 x CDJ Mk3's and 2 x 1210's with a Xone 92. Everything works mint as. Like Timmy said, make sure all your connection are correct, that would really be my only suggestion Razz

He's not really qualified to call himself a 'sound-guys' if he cant explain what an Aux does bud...

OK so whats with the wet/dry faders on the Empaths then? I've always thought they were a bit superfluous...

ROFL!!!!

thats flex FX dalai, for all you lovers of external fx units (ie phil k with the pioneer fx unit) it mixes in the the level of the fx on the channel i'm pretty sure

ok proof, so YOU explain aux then....and it wasn't 1 sound guy, its been like 3 Razz

turns out my needles are poked... Sad

is this normal wear and tear you think?

i've had them about 9 months...

How much weight did you have on them?

I'm presuming you know how to set up a tonearm properly?

yup but depends on what needles you have...

i find shures usually last for ever if you are careful, but the sound becomes less cleaner as they get worn...BUT the canter lever's seem to break alot easier than any other needles i have used...i've tried ortofon and stanton and shures are the most reliable needles i have used

i found ortofon's wore out very very quickly but have the best sound quality of all the needles - also found they provided more wear and tear on my vinyl

before you go buying needles tho, make sure your carts are all cleanly wired and the points inside your tonearm and on the end of your cart are nice and clean, these factors can also deteriorate your sound qual...however would be thinking after 9 months its time for some new needles

Honestly bro, I've been wondering what they were all about for years. You have solved one of the great mysteries of my life. Laughing Very Happy

Not sure if this is what they're meant to be for, but under the cue options, (split / mono / AUX etc), if you select AUX, you can then control headphone volume for each individual channel, by using it's AUX pot at the top above the gain. Meaning you can have one/some/all channels in your headphone monitor, at varying volumes Smile

I havnt seen em, but the above answer is prob spot on... The aux will just takee a splitt of the signal (how much depending on how much ytou turn it by) and send it to an aux channel, so you can use that for anything from external fx to headphone sends... thats some standardly steeze

Also important to know are that the "pre" switches control whether the aux sends off those pots from each channel are pre or post up-fader - and that the x-fader aux pot is independent of the per-channel aux sends (which can produce some unexpected results if you've got some gain on that one, and the channel the fx unit is on is hooked to the x-fader)

What I really wish is that they had a dedicated return Sad
