Shameless self-promotion et al, but if you are in Welly and can get FirmFM, try listening to pH1 on Tuesday nights from 10-12pm

We play a good whack of acid tekno in a liberator vein so tune in.

Good fucking shit dude. Very Happy

You should try bring him/them out to NZ! Wink
[quote]
i think you want the TRANCE forum buddy>>
[quote]
oh no, it's definitely techno...

firm fm is gonna have streaming soon too, so everyone in NZ can enjoy the acidy goodness Smile
[quote]
since when did the Liberator boys fit under the trance umbrella?

does that make DJ Rush a prog DJ? Wink
[quote]
cracks me up how some people only have room for Detroit Minimalism under their Techno umbrella's..
[quote]
I'm not getting in the middle of anything as i don't have any preference - but here's some reasons why people feel the way they do on this certain debate:
Acid techno is melodic, buildups and drumrolls which are more akin to trance which is why many people say it should be in the trance forum.

None of the people who are saying to put the acidtechno styles are into detroit music, minimalism or otherwise, in fact I'd say collectively they probably own around a dozen detroit 12"s... so there's no techno snobbery from them, I guess that the majority of the techno world doesn't useually keep acid techno in it't techno forums - which is why there's such a small scene for the music.

I also think that its like tech-house, akin, but also a branch offshoot which is having difficulty, as there's no dedicated space, so it has to find a platform somewhere, and gets flack for it when it does - the house boyz often give shit to tech house, so it can be frustrating from everyone's perspective..

Finally, if you love it you love it!
Rush is most def techno tho folks, nobody would dispute that who knows a thing or two, a better comparison would have been saying Felix da Housecat - is he techno or not?
[quote]
I hear what you're saying but I would have no hesitation in putting the Liberator lads firmly within the tekno cottage

I think they would be severely pissed if they had to end up in the same camp as Tiesto et al
[quote]
if you weren't offended by that staement you would never reply!

its a real shame that small nz djs like ourselves can't open their minds a lil more huh! all these djs are playing together and making records together under names sometimes no one knows whos who!
the purist attitude is definitely a white heady one and its quite embarassing i find...

get over it.
live for music, not what you think its called.
[quote]
you sound like a broken record. you made the exact coment in the other post.
get over yourself..

nice one sander...

maybe this is where my thoughts originated from in the first place.

plus , interesting to see how many people have viewed the thread.

I've been to a few parties overseas with a nice mash up of techno styles. From House-Techno-Acid/Hard Tech all the space of 6 hours... Personally, I like these parties the best because your dancing/vibe is constantly changing. For example seeing Valentino Kanzyani (spelling?) playing techy house before Ben Sims with Chris Liberator twisting it up until the end! Mean fun, I'd love to see the same kinda parties happening here but our small population and comercial domination is what prevents this. However, I'm sure parties with a mash up of the sorta stylez listed above would go off! So why not put the likes of Mr King, Halogen Girl, Matt Drake and DJ Maya on the same bill? ... Shocked
I sure know that I would be in attendance. It's a pity one has to venture off to the likes of chemistry with all the fluff bunnies to hear some 'big room' stylez... (no offence, it was a mean set Slug!) I know that I aint doing shit to make these sorta events happen, but my attendance is all I can offer at the mo. Peace.

Every techno dj in Auckland is more than capable of playing big room techno, we all love the big primetime stuff like primate, surgeon, italian styles, bailey, etc. and all collect it...
What I think everyone in Auckland can appreciate that others may not - isn't a lack of desire or skill or whatever to play this, but an absolute lack of a platform (or big rooms!! hehe). Hence why most of the technoheads are playing a bit more clubby stylewise. Saying this everyone is more than able to tear it up in the big La Real styles, and would have no problem stepping up to the plate (hell, if I can keep 5-6000 dancers happy with regis and surgeon for 2 hrs then I think it's more a matter of access to the music!!)

Would have to do some serious asskissing to get more of a lookin that we already have in the scen Pity Jon Davies didn't keep doing heaps of events, he expressed interest in pushing techno after seeing me and Miles and Jeff Mills play at 2tribes, and I'm sure Slug would have done all proud with his wicked blend of tech madness!!

Maybe we should all be pushing the big events for slots?? Smile

maybe you're right there matt...

im glad this post has gone somewhere.
i like what sambaloco was on about though huh...why can't we have a night where we hear these different styles?

interesting, but there is a couple comin up in the auckland area soon along these lines but of course not to a scale such as Hullabaloo etc...ive used this example as its the only party ive seen in nz where 5-6 zones all work together in a large scale.

i don't know the answers, but i like to celebrate diversity.
[quote]
All the big events are concerned with are making money these days, nothing agains them, but realisticly the public of NZ is so unintheknow about the global dance scene they think OB1, Sam Hill and Nick Collings play techno!! (see voting forum).

So you can see why none of these businesspeople (note they're not in it 'for the love', of course some may like the music) are going to put themselves out on a limb for techno - even tho the crowds love it when they here it, and there's proof that techno works infront of these big crowds. Noone is willing to see if in a few events with a techno room it'll pay off (even tho it probably would)...
Anyhow, if any big promotors are looking for good primetime techno djs - plenty here (some even with mix cds -hahahha).
Workit.
[quote]
Thomas Heckman owning Eclipse in Wellington really showed that big rooms can be techno

Mr. Green picked up 2 of his old CDs this weekend for the show Mr. Green
[quote]
a main room techno set from one of you dudes would seriously rip this scene a new asshole. In a good way of course.
[quote]
I've pretty much been to most techno gigs in Auckland from day one, have been across NZ and even overseas, and can say for certain that it's mainly exposure that we're lacking as a scene, every other element is there, especially skills.

Oh, and a million bucks.

Smile
[quote]
shameless self promo here, but if you want mainroom techno, come along to 3Some at Cube on 20th June - Maya and myself both have mainroom slots and we're both playing hard techno. We're also both playing in the second room on more of a funky vibe, but still techno! There'll also be a range of other hard dance styles from Ignite, Justin Sane, Taz and Cookie Monsta as well as live strangeness from the Filterbrats.

Also, it's nice to see a whole forum devoted to techno now. obviously we'll spend most of our time arguing about the purity of detroit techno or whatever, but somewhere alo9ng the line i think we'll find that there's a lot more people into techno than people realise. everytime i've played techno out in auckland people have loved it, but like anything, it'll take a bit of time. techno's huge back in the UK at the moment asnd there's tons of new stuff coming out,so it's onluy going to get bigger and bigger over here.

'nuff said for the moment
peace out

'scuse my ignorance Chelfyn, but where is Cube Confused
[quote]
Cube is 5 high st auckland - it's right next to suite16 (they even share a back alley) and used to be G.A.Y. It's now being run be Dave Hook - i went there a couple of weeks ago to see ed real play (he rocked!) and it's a great venue for hard dance events.
