Judging people so harshly on what they like and dislike, what they do and don't do is merely a reflection of ones-self, alot of people who frequent this site are not happy chappys, always scathing, bemoaning, miserable fuckers.dance music is for everyone to enjoy and participate in.peace. ooh i almost forgot, its not important, anyone like PEACE DIVISION ? want to see them here in Auckland?
[quote]
No they suck, is that negative enough?? How about Glenn Underground, Boo Williams, or some real garage guys from NOO Yawk
[quote]
peace division are all good.

would love to see an auckland date

Peace Division?
Dude!!!
I would sell my grandma to check those dudes
out!!!!
Clarkee, mate......fully want to see these geezers
in Aucks...
[quote]
o.k so touch does not want to come, thats o.k touch, glenn underground, boo williams, stacey kidd, larry heard, are available, but will they be suppported by the punters? Its like this there is no cohesion here, if you want something badly enough then support these house events, where ever they are, your certainly not lining the pockets of real house promoters, there is no money in it?
[quote]
Good point Clarkee, but if I support djs who I don't particulary like the promoter gets the impression that thats what I like and I miss out even more. I was at Roy Davis jnr cos he is what i like I wasn't at Hippe cos it ain't what I like. Possibly when sorting out gigs here we should try and negotiate a little differently than the usual promoters from overseas. Look at lightspeed when they bring over the shaboom guys they play then sit on a beach for the summer, this should work with the djs from Detoit, New York and Chicago all you need is somewhere for them to stay in the country and you will prolly get a performance cost concession, ie he plays for free but gets 2 weeks holiday at Piha over summer. Just an idea

Peace division Christchurch december 7th @
hyrid...bring it on

You are all basing your opinions of Peace Division "the dj" (only Clive Henry dj's) on Peace Division "the producers"
Are you buying a Peace Division 12" or going to see a DJ set?
Maybe you might like to read the following:
Peace Division @ Home, Sydney (02/12/00)
"It must be said that Clive probably isn't the most skilled DJ in the world, with a number of mixes going awry and most being fairly hurried, rarely did he stay 'in the mix' (so to speak) for longer than a few bars. I'd hazard a guess that the DJing thing is just a bit of an add-on to the Peace Division production, a way to get the name out and about without playing live (and avoiding all the issues that go with that). Fair enough"
Quote from www.inthemix.com.au
Don't want to rain on anyone's parade but skills in the studio doesn't automatically equate to skills on the decks
[quote]
Now i not saying you are? but if you were a peace division fan or low pressing fan, i did'nt say you were, where in Auckland would you like to see them and for how much?
[quote]
well, I saw Derrick May play at Phoenix a couple
of years ago on Xmas Eve......and
technically....he sucked. However, his choice of
tunes, and knowing how to rev the crowd up,
made it pretty good! Even if P>Division are not
that good technically at mixing, care?
We all know that their production work is fucking
wicked, and that the remixs or producing of
tracks they do, are all good in da hood!
I dont care where they play, or the cost (to a
point), cos I would love to check them out!
Clarkee, if you are bringing them here....god
bless your first born....!

clarkee

i would love to see peace division play at fu.

for $30 - $35.

come on do it, go on, go on. plllleeeeeaaassseeee
[quote]
Peace Division are wicked producers - but from reading "cheet's" comments it sounds like the PD DJ skills aren't as good as they could be.

Couldn't you just go and see Greg Churchill DJ? - for about $35 less. I'm sure he plays the latest Peace Division tracks just like every other tech house DJ in Auckland, and technically he's flawless, absolutely flawless.

[quote]
yea

but when does greg play tech house, i would love to see more of greg playing that style, but every time i have seen him play since steve lawler (where he played fuckin amazing tunes) hes been into that funky house shit.
[quote]
clarkee

while your at it can you promote a sander kleinenberg gig in auckland please

PLEASE, come on people wtf is no one interested in seeing him play here.

Hey listen people there is nothing i would like better than to bring these djs down, but here is the problem, i don't have the money to cover the losse's, and in aucklands dance scene climate at the moment we would lose money, sponsorship is a way to prop up the gig yes, but when you get club-owners wanting to hammer you with venue hire fees and take the bar it makes it very difficult even when you have sponsorship. On the bigger gigs one can justify venue costs, due to larger numbers, thats why promoters will not bring down smaller underground djs / producers, it means losing money.
This is why we almost need to form a co-op, a group who work together for the scene with clubs involved all chip in, rallyup a good crowd and keep the costs down for all. We lose on our exchange rate to start, take Roy Davis jnr, he normally charges U.S.$4000 per gig in the U.S., to come down here he halved his fee to U.S.$2000 but hey thats still over $4000 nz plus advertising, local djs, transport, hotels, venue, sound, lights etc, it puts the costs well over $12,000,have a lean night and you take a big bath.No one can afford it on their own.We need to get the underground to pool together and sort this cause we are missing out. suggestions please.

Its an impossible situation. The air travel, kiwi peso, current market trends.
We just can't afford it. The only option is to simply take the loss and fuck up. Its just a question of who wants to take the loss.
Its either the punters, the clubs, product suppliers, promoters, or DJs.
Basically, its an oversupplied market.
THe whole concept of DJing in the first place was to bring the cost of performing great music right down.Support local DJs. Make your own music . Export instead of import.
or else suffer the inevitable $4000 loss on dragging a tired out DJ halfway across the world to play a bunch of records you can buy here.
[quote]
Agreed. Go the locals and the $10 or $15 sessions for Bass Frontiers, Around the House or the other regular and kick-ass Wgtn events.

Doc Scott was good (at $30) but not as much total fun as 3x$10 Bass Frontiers gigs. Razz The economics is compelling.

Nethertheless, I'm relatively new to the scene so have to give GateCrasher a go, and some of the other internationals before I do a final judgement.
[quote]
Locals are great but its not just a case of different Dj same tunes. At every international event i have been to the djs brought tunes that were either rare new or whatever i hadn't heard most of them. If i go to a local event I will recognise most of the tracks. I think internationals are deffinatly worth the extra to see. The whole crowd is just a whole lot more worked up to see an international even if its no better in reality than a local set. Internationals drag out the crowds.
[quote]
Its good promotion that drags out the crowds, and a big event. ( Velvet, Deep hard n Funky) etc
With the exception of a handful established names, most internationals that come here wouldn't fill
a small venue on word of mouth, and the audience that pays any attention to up and coming talent is minimal.
A local lineup, with an international promo budget will pull a big crowd too.
[quote]
Mikew, You know sometimes even with huge money spent on promotion you cannot guarantee a crowd, look at supernova /renaissance. I have nothing against local events in fact quite the contary, but to stimulate the local events we have to have transient dj /producers keeping the scene alive and passing through now and then, where do you think the producers get there inspiration from, for centurys people have travelled and played music, have you not heard of WOMAD,ethnic, music artists from around the world, its fantastic.
[quote]
The love of music and a desire to be connected to global culture will keep many of us involved in a
scene that is financially punishing.
Ultimately, its market driven. You can't continue to lose money forever.
The hip musical niches in NZ are only viable if supported with promo money and enthusiasts sweat(and savings).
The direction that K'Rd has taken is an indicator of who we really are, not who a few of us who buy too many records think we ought to be.
Innovators usually empty their pockets to do what they believe in and only the smart survive long enough to make it happen financially
You know it, I know it.

Clarkee, your idea of pooling some $$ and bringing djs down here is all good on paper.. but doesn't everything you touch turn to shit?

bad dog, i don't mean for things to turn to shit,my intentions are to provide some different sounds by way of dj tours for auckland, if your not up for it bad dog its your call. But remember its much better to have tried and failed, than failed to try. You come up with a better idea and you have my undivided attention

example: go hard works for n'somnia and yet he knocks promoters and djs doing gigs there, i cannot understand this logic, is his life so full of hate, should be sent to afganistan to take it out on the teleban.
