In the market soon for some new speakers for my PC, they're 100% for listening to music/watching shows/movies, not gaming.

Prefer a 2.0 system as from the reading I've done, most people complain that the 2.1 systems with the subs are too bassy, constantly having the sub wound right down, and even then it's still too much.

I'm quite keen on these two options...

or...

...normally the Altec Lansings are way more expensive than the Creatives, and debatable about whether they're actually as good/better, but I've found a place which has them for $115 in store, so no shipping and a fraction cheaper than the first link (which seems to be the cheapest I can find them)

Anyone use these and have an opinion, or have any other recommendations? Not completely ruling out a 2.1 system, but yeah, music is the primary, don't want something that is OTT on bass and overall pretty crappy because of that.

Cheers

Very Happy

I lay my 2.1 system sub face down on the carpet - seems to make it nice and tight Smile

Hmmmmm, wooden floors throughout our house...Altec has a downfiring sub 2.1 system which looks alright...

...but yeah, the whole sub on the wooden floor/possibly being too bassy is a concern...last system I had was awful for EDM due to this.

I have a creative 5.1 with a sub volume control and it sounds alright with it turned all the way down. but agree most of them are too bassy, as are 90% of cheap sounds systems.

Yeah I gotta cheap Logitech 2.1 I use for media box in my bedroom, and the sub is turned to bare minimum.

Maybe some decent proper studio monitors would be a better choice, but you're not going to find any as cheap as what you're looking at so far.

Oh - JB Hifi here usually has a whole shitload of them out on display, that could be a way of testing them out?
[quote]
Yeah, I have tried what JB Hi Fi have, which is a stack of various Logitech + Altec Lansing, but they couldn't get the particular ones from my first post going! And all the ones which are 2.1, I didn't rate...plus they didn't have the Creative Gigaworks (actually not seen any place with them in stock to try), but they rate really well on review sites...anywho, just throwing this out there for ideas.

They don't have to sound amazing, studio monitors is way OTT, only just got myself some of them to MIX with, but they live in the studio/spareroom

Yo I'm after the same thing right now but after having the typical desktop 2.1 and 5.1 systems for a number of years I would never go back. They are as mentioned often too bassy but more importantly they lack mid range reponse which can leave all your favourite non-electronic music sounding pretty fuking average.

Plenty of far better options at various price points here...

H'uh? After having them, you'd never go back, even though they're all too bassy and lacking mid range?

Considering these...

...are the same price as the various 2.0 speakers above, and bound to be better sounding, I might check them out

Sweet...I bought these...

...pretty freaking solid, for the price! Without being too big for the room like the 8" driven Truths

i'm pretty fussy and I'm happy with these
http://gizmodo.com/197001/logitech-z+10-interactive-20-speaker-system-control-tunes-from-the-speakers
has an LCD display , touch pad controls , and a USB connection
solid bass indeed (no subwoofer required)
cost me about 230 I think.

Did you end up grabbing anything yet, Rips?
