*DJ PROFILES*
DARREN EMERSON (UK)
Darren Emerson is one of the most influential figures in dance music, his 17-year career has seen him work with everyone from Depeche Mode to Jamie Cullum with numerous hit albums and singles. Arguably best known for his work with Rick Smith and Karl Hyde, Darren joined Underworld when he was 18 years old, the band released three albums: ‘Dubnobasswithmyheadman', ‘Second Toughest in the Infants' and ‘Beaucoup Fish'. Underworld have sold over a million albums worldwide, featured two tracks on Danny Boyles Oscar nominated classic "Trainspotting" and are renowned for their stunning and unpredictable live shows. The hits include Cowgirl, Rez, Dark and Long and Born Slippy – all classics. ??
2000 saw Emerson leave Underworld and go solo. Although the band had been his passion for 10 years, it was time to branch out; concentrate on his record label and work with different producers. The first collaboration saw Emerson and DJ cohort Sasha produce the Ibiza classic ‘Scorchio'. Two Global Underground compilations soon followed - ‘Uruguay' and ‘Singapore', and the hugely successful Underwater Episodes. Darren has also remixed tracks for everyone from The Prodigy to Everything But The Girl and Gus Gus. Darren is also the founder of record label Underwater, which releases material from artists such as Tim Deluxe and D.Ramirez.
TV ROCK feat. Rudy (Live!) (AUS)
There are few boxes left for TV ROCK to tick. Double ARIA Award winners, the duo, comprised of GQ DJ of the Year Grant Smillie and Ivan Gough have been dominating the charts for the past 5 years. TV ROCK has spent the longest time in ARIA history inside the top 10 for their debut single ‘Flaunt It’ and have had no less than 9 number #1 positions on the ARIA Club chart for their remixes and originals. If that wasn’t enough, they also own and run Neon – a highly successful dance imprint which has already cracked a #1 on the internationally renowned Beatport digital download site.
The TV ROCKers regularly play the Australian, Asian, European and American circuit and have even played to millions closing the MTV music awards and as the pre-game entertainment at the AFL Grand Final or the Australian Open Men’s Tennis Final!
TV Rock were listed by IDJ and Mixmag in 2008 as the ones to watch and with no wonder- their single ‘Been A Long Time’ was picked up by Axwell’s label ‘Axtone’ and remixed by Laidback Luke and Axwell - getting spins on Pete Tong’s ‘Essential Selection’ on Radio 1 and rocketing to the #1 position on the Oz charts. This follows on the success of ‘The Others’ with The Dukes Of Windsor and ‘Happiness’, which they collaborated with Luke Chable.
2009 saw another monster year for the TV ROCK lads- they spent producing for Melbourne singer Zoe Badwi - their first track together ‘Release Me’ spent 7 weeks at #1 on the ARIA charts!
Also on the go, TV ROCK have recently remixed Kaz James and Macy Gray, Dirty South’s Alamo and Eddie Thoneik amongst others, and their recent track ‘In The Air’’ feat. Rudy was a genuine 2009 anthem!
THE BANG GANG DJS (AUS)
Cavaliers of club, barons of Baltimore, tramps of techno and hobos of house, Jaime Doom and Gus Da Hoodrat are two parts of Sydney party troupe The Bang Gang Deejays, and two of the finest party rocking DJ’s this or any other dimension has ever seen.
Pioneers of the sound that’s come to be known as "dimensioneer dance", Hoodrat and Doom are trailblazing DJ’s completely unafraid of taking a trip into the murky waters of the sonic exploration, with complete disregard for acceptable club convention and what is commonly recognised as “good cricket”. Taking influence from current erectro-house, baile punk, minimal hechno, 90’s French horse, 80’s new wave and 70’s disco, these disc jockeys (without horses) not only pioneer new dimensions (with, or without horses), they also help the deaf 'n' disabled, the young 'n' restless, the mellow 'n' yellow and the aged 'n' agitated to discombobulate into parallel universes.
They’ve made thousands of mixes, released on their current spiritual and contractual home Modular Recordings, through Ministry Of Sound, on their own self-produced CD-R’s and set into the wild via the interweb. Doom and Hoodrat are also the engine-room behind the notoriously bitchin' Bang Gang 12 Inches record label, releasing vinyl by like-minded turkeys like The Bag Raiders, Like Woah!, Soft Tigers, Muscles and KIM. They’ve toured the world, playing raves in Tokyo, smelly clubs in London, Parisian cheese factories, German leather dens, New York discos and Melbourne toilets. If there’s a knees-up where they can throw down, they’ve already done it, thrice over. All of this without ever producing a single jingle.
