Woman Offers Herself To Stop War

A Hawke's Bay woman has written a letter to US President George W Bush, offering herself for crucifixion in exchange for calling off the invasion of Iraq.

Mary Grierson, of Waipukurau, sent her challenge by e-mail to the White House and as an open letter to US newspapers.

She called on President Bush to send to his troops home and take her instead.

Ms Grierson says she would not make it easy for the US leader, as he would have to personally hammer in the nails.

She says war is too easy when all you have to do is push a few buttons, hundreds of miles away from the enemy.

--------------------

personally, i think that's the perfect example of futility i've read about. i'd give her a 10 for determination, maybe a 2.7 for if she wanted to seem noble...but a zero for originality.

i mean really, who is she kidding? Razz

your thoughts?

I'd give her a zero for logic too.

How will her being crucified result in saddam disarming?

It makes as much sense as "I'll let you stand on my pet mouse if you paint the sky tower purple"

Bush should call her bluff, now that would be funny!
[quote]
Haha.. poor mouse.

He'd never call her bluff would he...I mean that would be cold blooded murder, wouldn't it ;P
[quote]
Easy to offer to take someones punishment when you know it's not going to be accepted, if she feels so strongly about taking someones rap she should front up to her local court and offer to do someones sentence for them, now that you are allowed to do!
[quote]
How stupid. Even more stupid that the media give this nutter so much time. People like this almost make me want to support the war.

she's from waipukurau people ... what more can you expect??

"the needs of the many out weigh the needs of the one"

If everyone watched Star Trek, the world would be a better place.... except that the Borg would be a real pain in the ass
[quote]
What a looney ...why did the media even bother with her?
[quote]
lol, you know Trapper, i have a thing for purple and wouldn't mind if the Skytower was purple. Very Happy

do you love your pet mouse? Wink

Very Happy

Notice how Hans Blix is saying that the Iraqis are now cooperating with weapons inspectors. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/storydisplay.cfm?storyID=3199320&thesection=news&thesubsection=world

That runs contrary to what the Bush administration is currently saying. Who should know more Blix or the US?
[quote]
hahah what a load of shit.

"While he said there were still many open questions about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction, Blix refused to join in the blanket US condemnation of Iraqi co-operation."

Not joining a 'blanket condemnation' does not mean he thinks Saddam is cooperating. On the contrary, 1441 demands full and uninhibited cooperation, so even the smallest sign of non-cooperation means he is not complying with the resolution.

Really?

Anyway I reckon she is totally away with the fairies, angels or other such nonsense. Either that or she knows their is absolutely no possibility that George W Bush would ever dream of taking her up on th offer.

Having said that I do admire the cause she supports.

What would be better is if every person in the world who was against war (and I mean literally every) stood up to be counted as not agreeing with the policys of countries like America, Russia, Afganistan, Isreal, Palestine, India, Pakistan, China, North Korea, Britain, Australia, Guam, Iraq, Columbia, Nigeria, ETC and organisations such as Hamas, PLO, IRA, Loyalist Irish Forces (I forget name), KKK, and the list trails on forever.

Also I reckon soldiers need to give it a rest and get a really valuable job (I mean globally and all at the same time).

There is no war without warriors.

But then thats human nature.

Sad

she has one good point....

"She says war is too easy when all you have to do is push a few buttons, hundreds of miles away from the enemy"

i'd like to see bush, rumsfield, blair, cheney, etc all take up arms and go kill some iraqi's too.

word has it that most of these fellas skipped the vietnam war for very UN-NOBLE reasons! spineless cowards, put your ass where your mouth is!
[quote]
don't worry cactus, WE know that they all talk from their asses. Wink
[quote]
Yeah Trapper but it doeswn't say any thing about war in resolution 1441. Since when does serious consequences amount to being invaded? No wonder they're going for another resolution which it doesn't look like they will get any time soon. not everyone is willing to roll over and that also includes Turkey.

Why did she have to come from NZ damn it. If she was from the states, we could all write it off as "stupid Americans".
[quote]
agrees with Smiley, perhaps she is an ex-pat American in NZ?
[quote]
styln, sure it doesn't mention any war in 1441 but thats beside the point.

No one is asking Blix if he supports a war or not, they are asking him if Saddam is complying with 1441. Just because he won't join a "blanket condemnation" of Saddam doesn't mean that he thinks they are complying with it!
[quote]
We only know about it cause she a NZer.

snafu - I did say almost. Smile
