AE86's are def a classic, they have a massive following in Japan, what you doing for more power? turbo?

cheers bro,
I am just lucky I got mine at reasonable price about a year & a half ago, the prices for these are skyrocketing.
Decided that I wanted to go for a worked up N/A motor, so I am keeping the original big port 16v. Will go for all the usual things, new exhaust, big cams, head work, and some nice big new quad throttle bodies and any other bits I can think of and afford. But at the moment I have a lot of work ahead of me, its basically just a shell with a dash and wheels etc, have got to keep stripping it down, take out all wiring/loom, then take off all suspension components, to get ready for painting and powdercoating, then can I think about engine work.
Aim is for up to around 200hp and trying to keep a bit of low down torque for normal driving, which will be a lot of fun in a 900kg car! It already went very quick as a standard car with its almighty 100-odd horsepower. Very Happy Cool

nice, far less problems with the NA Smile multiple throttle bodies is def the way to go, have some nice long intake runners for the torque, have you thought about what you'll do for brakes? If your gonna change them? M-spec Skyline or Series 4 RX7 front 4 pot callipers will peel paint off a 900kg car Very Happy

Some old cars like urs and the ol rotaries (especially RX3, 808 etc) definately have style and are wicked still today, wouldn't say most of todays cars are crap though, they are all far more technologically advanced in everyway, agree not all cars are created equal but saying most new cars are ass is rubbish, they are simply new and different, cars produced today will be the classic cars of the future
[quote]
having said that I can see ur point in comparing say a NA with a carby to a fuel injected turbo

I pitcrew for a Mazda Pro7 (standard 12A rotary with slighly modified carby and exhaust)

Can be tuned by ear at the track, cant do that with injection let alone the turbo!

Todays cars are far more complicated, a lot of the shit can be removed to make them simpler though.. I hate ABS performance wise (all ABS systems come in too early for my liking) but its perfect in an accident in the rain situation, having said that id rather buy better tyres so the abs doesn't come in at all

sounds good man, would love to see some pics of it when its all setup. I am sure you will have yours all set up and going before I will, so would be good to hear how it goes, or any interesting info you find.
What model starlet is it? is it one of the old kp rear wheel drive ones?
Have you been interested in getting an ae86/85?, i say that because i think i remember seeing you asking questions about a couple i saw on trademe.

blade - not too sure about the brakes at the moment, in the mean time i think just a pad and fluid upgrade will suffice. Maybe further down the line i will look at getting some new disks & calipers as well, all money dependant of course.
And as for getting as much torque as possible, some nice long ram tubes should go down a treat and some nice curley exhaust headers preferably like these:

Are you in Auckland? If you are have you ever been into race brakes? They do the brakes for most of the race cars in NZ, they sponish my mates race car and they do like a 'package 3' upgrade which does pads and fluid and possible even braided lines and they gaurantee that you wont outdrive the brakes on the road or race track! No calliper or rotor upgrade needed, but if your like me and like the look of big brakes behind the mags then go for it Smile something like a skyline 4 pot up front would look huge on your car, I just bought a set of Wilwood 6 piston super-lite callipers for the front of mine with some 324mm DBA 5000 race rotors, much bigger look but $$$... that I could of used for painting the thing...

razz - 83 kp60 2 dr starly, im pretty much running it standard apart from minor mods (filter, cams, exhaust n dumpy) should put out about 110kw, which is more than enough in a car that light.

i wouldnt recommend it thou, theres a load of small mods you have to do to get it installed and running correctly. but the end result will be worth it. Cool
