I was walking to the shops and saw these two old ladies stealing someone's garden plant from in front of someone's letterbox, roots and all, then they walked off with it. I was kind of shocked, so I said "Did you just steal that person's plant? That's not very nice is it?" but they didn't reply. I don't think they understood English. I was thinking about going up to the person's front door to tell them two old ladies had just stolen their plant, but then I thought they might say "So? I don't care" and I'd feel stink.

Anyone else seen apparently sweet old people nicking stuff? I thought it was pretty rude!

I once saw an old lady (probably in her 80's) steal a blender from a department store in London. I was that amazed I just let her go about her business.

Im not suprised to hear this. Theres been articles in the paper recently about the "stoned grandparent" phenomenon. Apparently theres heaps of flower power children from the 60's still puffing away and hitting the LSD. ...wait heres the article

quote:
They include 60-plus grandmothers spaced out on LSD and 70-year-olds in court for dealing dope: Germany is struggling to cope with a rapid increase in "pensioner hippies" who are still hooked on drugs nearly half a century after the end of the "flower power" era.

The "stoned grandparent" phenomenon has begun to alarm legal and welfare authorities in the country's most populous state, North Rhine Westphalia, where the number of pensioners convicted of drug offences has almost doubled over the past decade to about 120 a year.

Gaby Schnell, of the regional senior citizens' association, told Der Spiegel magazine, "Older people are increasingly turning to illegal drugs. This is a new development which has only surfaced over the past few years."

Most cases have involved pension-age hippies convicted of drug-related offences.

LSD right. Pretty heavy for old folks. What you saw could of been a couple of them thinking they were saving that plants life or something

peat you just did that old person thing of accidentally dissecting the joke.

Old people stealing is definitely a scene, anyone who has ever worked at a supermarket will tell you that..

Its an interesting combo of a low fixed-income, loss of marbles, a cheap thrill, as well as taking advantage of peoples naivety. Those in the know though, definitely know it happens.

Confronting a pensioner who has shoplifted $4 worth of soap is an interesting ethical conundrum. The recent story in the UK about an old lady busted by hidden camera stealing the flowers from the grave of a child every week for two years, is the other end of the spectrum.

The old guys I used to drink with at my local in Bethnal Green would steal pretty much anything... Bog roll, cutlery, one guy showed up with a skateboard he'd pinched from outside someone's house just because it was there. I remember one kid getting knocked the fuck out in a fight and a couple of the old timers helping him up, pickpocketing his wallet and phone in the process. One of them asked to borrow £5 until the following day, and never came back tot he pub again. He abandoned his local pub of 20 years for the the sake of 5 fucking quid.

That's pretty much how everyone is in Bethnal Green; I wouldn't limit to old people.
