His set in Chch was pretty good - would've been good to hear More VC and Fireball stuff from him considering they're his labels, but he told me the music policy was a little 'differenr', haha.
[quote]
Play to the crowd strike...im sure all good djs do this...im also sure ben read the crowd on the night as well as taking on board local knowledge Wink

I'm really looking forward to coming over to NZ again, I always have a quality time.

artist profiles:

PAUL GLAZBY

Paul Glazby is the Don, the ‘hard’ in hard house, the guy who conquered an entire scene almost overnight with his remix of Quench’s Dreams. The minstrel of mayhem who led the way from day one, when he boldly stated his intentions, and with every beat, every mix, in every set, at every club, on almost every continent, with every record he has made or played, he has kept his word.

That promise propelled a solo debut single that has since become the definitive hard house anthem. Kick It is the one that closes the last set of every Tidy Weekender, the classic so many others aspire to be. The tune launched the DJ, production and remix career of a giant who instantly towered over the hard house scene. The record launched a label which grew into a stable, an empire, a leader of the pack.

Vicious Circle has since clocked up almost seventy releases, including the all-time classics Beautiful, Yamamba, Crazy Pills and Hostile along with its founder’s unrivalled Ten Commandments series of ten consecutive singles.

It has spawned the renowned I Love VC albums, events and tours and it remains the biggest and best hard house stamp in the world. At the Hard Dance Awards it has received the accolades of Best Single and Best Album, while its head honcho has come home with a Best Remixer trophy.

The powerful punch Paul packs in the mix has graced albums on other labels, such as Tidy’s Insomnia, Hard Dance Republic and TW9 Live, while he has had singles snapped up by greats – Tidy, Nukleuz and Recharge.

Paul has also contributed to all of the major summer festivals such as Global Gathering, Creamfields, Gatecrasher Summer Sound System and the globally-renowned Dance Valley.

BEN STEVENS

Chances are the first time you heard the name of Ben Stevens, it was none other than Paul Glazby tipping the aspiring DJ for the top.

And in the half a decade or so since he first grabbed the attention of the revered Vicious Circle head honcho, Stevens has never had any problem living up to such high expectations.

Glazby’s faith in the youngster saw him land pivotal roles in the development of the Vicious Circle stable, both in A&R and event management, and as a result Stevens has a sense of professionalism that belies his 24 years.

Regarded by many of his peers as a technical genius on the wheels of steel, beatmaster Ben has become one of the most in-demand hard house DJs in Britain, with regular slots at high-profile events such as Frantic, Polysexual, Creamfields and the Tidy Weekenders.

The abilities and talents of Ben Stevens are without question: whether producing tunes or playing them, he knows exactly how to work a dancefloor and raise the roof off a club.

Wow. what a night. thank you so much to everyone who came and everyone who contributed to the night to make it what it was!

///The DJ's:

Hats off to everyone who played, you were all amazing, highlights of the night of course were Ben Stevens and Paul Glazby. two insane sets each and when they combined for that vicious circle hour, holy crap that brought back some memories! fire in the sky! beautiful! tortured! yeaaaahhhh!!

A special mention to RP and Sheldon who soldiered on and had the foyer of studio cranking harder than i've ever seen it before during the first fire alarm fiasco.

For me personally that was one of the most enjoyable sets i've played. having such an up for it crowd, all smiling, with that setup really made it for me Smile

///The Crew:

CLUB STARGATE who brought some fantastic product that was most definately not available inside the venue. Also for being awesome people and enhancing the atmosphere of the gig!

A MASSIVE thanks to the M2 boys for bringing their lasers to OCTANE. they looked ridiculously amazing in the main room as demonstrated by that video above! (thanks emily for that) expect to see more of those lasers at CHEMISTRY.

Thanks to SAMSUNG who provided all 10 screens that really set the stage on fire.

DurtyMovie productions filled those screens with live tastiness for the majority of the night and in my opinion did a brilliant job.

All the boys for coming in to help pack out. you know who you are and you are legends, i salute you.

My doorgirl Shelly, thank you for spending the night in the little box at the front.

The bar manager Cahla, who kept her head when the f**king fire alarms went and being an all round awesome person.

Leighton the sound engineer, who was the reason the rooms were sounding so MINT through the whole night.

DION my legend of a mate, who was the one to identify the first fire alarm issue and basically fix it, once again you were a huge part of Octane mate, good to have you back on board!

The guy that fixed the fire alarm and identified the smoke detector that was causing the issue.

My lovely girlfriend, who put up with me talking about this gig non stop for months on end haha.

and last but not least:

You. thank you for coming and i hope you enjoyed the event. I apologise for the fire alarms, i wish they could've been avoided but we dealt with them the best we could

/////

This was the biggest Octane yet, in terms of production, and both Paul and Ben have said they would be happy to come back again, so watch this space next year.

There may be more up the Octane sleeve in my jacket yet, but we shall see, this event has taken an insane amount of effort, but the thanks of people last night and seeing the dancefloor packed and loving it till damn near 5am definitely made me happy.

Cheers

Kyle D + the Octane Crew.

Was a great night - thanks for putting in the effort, Kyle.

My only disappointment was that the VIP tickets (which we had to pay extra for) came nowhere close to delivering what was promised.

Here is what was promised:
- Free drink: NO. The bar staff refused to honour that promise.

- Free Stargate goodies: NO. These were not delivered along with my tickets as I had been promised by the promoter.

- Access to special 'VIP' area: Yes, we were permitted to access a balcony overlooking the main floor (before that area was closed off halfway through the night!) however there were no actual 'VIP's to be found at all - especially disappointing for those of us who had brought our official VC t-shirts to be signed by Paul and Ben.

We did get a cool looking lanyard to wear around our necks but that was about it.

Considering the fact that we passed up on the option of $20 earlybirds because we liked what was claimed to be offered by getting the VIP tickets, we kinda felt we paid an extra $20 for not much at all. Will know next time not to buy 'VIP' tickets Laughing
[quote]
strike - i'm guessing you are Richard from teh other site?

if so, then i've already apologised for the lack of follow thru on the VIP's. i sont think i'll be doing VIP tix again as i dont like the idea of some people being better than others.

Paul and Ben were standing at the bar the whole night, you could've asked them to sign stuff no worries Smile

overall the gig was very enjoyable, and the only hitch were the fire alarms (damn faulty smoke detectors)

a huge thanks to everyone that came again.
