So on his website was a sort of suggestion box and users could vote up or down existing entries with the idea that the best ideas would rise to the top.

No#1 by a notable margin was ending marijuana prohibition.
quote:
"I suggest that we step back and take a non-biased 'Science Based' approach to decide what should be done about the 'Utter Failure' that we call the War on (some) Drugs," the entry reads.

#2 was bullet trains and light rail
#3 was ending the stupid abstinence programme and replacing it with actual sex education.
#4 was commit to being the greenest country in the world,
#5 was similar to #1, to stop the government from undermining medical marijuana laws by not prosecuting sick people who smoke the pot.

I wonder if this suggestion box will be given *any* consideration or just totally ignored?

Obama knows he will need to make the economy #1. It would be supremely risky for him to be seen as the "pro-drug" President.
That said, I dunno how many dollars America is wasting in the war on drugs, but it sure cannot afford to piss away anything more in the war on terror. China is happy to see America waste this money of course, just like the UK blew its reserves fighting Germany 1914 to 1945.

What drugs don't destroy in American inner cities, the war on drugs certainly do.

But I just can't see Obama doing anything drastic in this area at all, at least not in his first term :>

he's not going to do anything that is even remotely radical or over due

don't believe the hype - look at his executive, his party and recent US history

change is but a word

So closing GITMO, stopping all torture and changing the US stance on Gaza isn't change ?
[quote]
To be fair, the logistics of closing Gitmo in a year are going to be quite difficult to maneuver around I'd imagine.

Yes but at least he is committing to his campaign promises.

The change he talked about is the change we are seeing.

It definitely appears he is making good on his word so far.

He's also over turned some legislation that provides funding for international groups that promote or perform abortions, reversing a policy of his predecessor, George W. Bush.

Not everyone agrees with that move of course but apparently when Bush cancelled it, it brought about the closure of some programs that did a lot more than just aided poor people with abortion.
