It was bloody tinny play from India. Their tail enders just went for it and edged and skied deliveries all over the place, but they just didn't fall in the right place.

Getting them out for around 300 was good. Around 400 is starting to get bad.

Well let's be honest. Harbhajan's innings was probably one of the luckiest 50s you can hope to see. Toe ends, leading edges, dropped catch, skied shots... He was insanely lucky, and thus we were very unlucky.

There's nothing you can do to protect guys going hard and getting lucky over the slip corden. I still think we've had a decent day- it's started to get away from us now, but I think we''re still in a good position on this flat pitch.

In fact, if there's any rain delays they will take 10 or so overs off (and thats assuming there'll be a shower only). I reckon we'll have to bat 50 overs and therefore are in with a reasonable chance of drawing this test.

This is a good example of how test cricket is the game of defeatists.. NZ smack up 600+ in 1 innings only be to be blocked for 2 days by India (over 2 innings) which somehow creates "a draw". And then in the following match NZ get annihilated with both the bat and ball and then block through impending rain to create another "draw". No wonder people quickly lost interest in this shitty unspirited version of the game and flocked towards the fairer, more competitive and conclusive format - the great ODI :p

Well what have we learned from this series

# Midedle order looks good but our openers still suck a lot. Personally I believe Craig Cumming is the best wall in the country atm, even if he is not the long term solution. Id prefer to see Cumming/Guptill

# Leaving Martin out of test sides is ridiculous, as he proved again he is far and away our best test bowler. the rest are pretty ordinary...Southee looked like a boy out there. We miss at least one strike bowler obv or we will never compete in tests. 20 wickets. etc

# Fuck NZC for tongueing the Indians backsides in providing provincial warm ups/roads-barring the Basin etc. Looking at their test averages over the series only slap happy Shewag missed out in averaging over 50. We could have produced just one greentop?

# McCullum has to be the unluckiest batsman in world cricket. he must get sawn off 1/6 or something. he also needs to bat above the likes of Franklin cos it is criminal to continously expect him to nurse the tail

I think there's a lot of crap being bandied about about how good the Indians are.

Batsmen, sure.

But a bowling attack where none of the strike bowlers averages <20 is hardly "great." You compare their bowling to SA or even Aus now, or Aus 5+ years ago (McGrath, Warne, Gillespie, Kasprowicz or whoever) and there really is no comparison.

Singh is slightly better than Vettori, while Khan is no better a bowler than Martin. I'd take O'Brien over Munaf Patel, and Sharma is insanely overrated.
