From what I've heard, Chelfyn plays trance, acid trance, and maybe borders acid techno... no HH, or really (what most people call) Hard Trance...

is it really necessary to insult someone just because someone else classed them as a techno dj? Why the need for such genre snobbery, especially from techno lovers?

Your right Chelfyn plays trance but he rattled off a couple of Hydraulix tunes and a few from 'Set Fire' upon request for T and myself at the last gig...

Anushka also helps with all the N2O gigs (incl. 3Some) and Chelfyn in my opinion does play techno.. his set at First Contact did have its far share of hard house in it, but he was adapting himself for the enviroment, he plays a damn site more techno that I do... I thought his set at 3Some was good as well, he was also responsible for giving up a main slot to go first at 3Some for you to play at a more peak time with more crowd..

These people, amongst others, were all responsible for getting you a paid set in Auckland at a good club with a good crowd, its sad to see that you've knocked them so quickly, especially when they have been so accomedating.

Personally, I'd say instead of throwing the towel in as to what you hear he might play, have a listen to one of his shows on 107.3UPFM either on a Saturday night or Monday lunchtime and make your own mind up

Chelfyn culd mix Techno circles round you anyday of the week and still be nice enuf to give you bus fare home. Unlike you who bags a guy who offered you gig and then all you do is turn around and bag the guy.

ffs all you do is play 2 bits of plastic at roughly the same speed. some of the more crafty members of this forum play 3 or 4 bits of plastic but thats beside the point. play within your means, regardless of genre, if its good ur in with a winner. carl cox plays house, electro/breaks, tech trance etc does that mean hes not a techno dj because his sets do not consist of 100% techno? hell no.
force 5: if you had any idea on the back ground of techno in nz ud be name dropping about 10 djs that havn't been mentioned in this thread.

exactly jason... i don't know why some people insist that techno has to be 'pure'... pretty much every other genre has other ones that it crosses over into, and very few djs stick purely to one genre (especially the good ones)

i've even been flamed on this board for posting about acid techno... some people decided it's not 'pure' enough...

these sort of attitudes can only hinder the techno 'movement'... if people are playing techno, who cares if it's at a prog gig, or a hard dance gig, and that they're mixing in other genres too... maybe a few of the punters will hear it and think "my god, what's that sound".. then we have another convert to the techno sound...

the more converts, the more gigs we can run that break even, the more internationals we get, etc. etc.

I haven't really heard Chelfyn play in years... but I have spoken to him in the last few months so I have a vauge idea of what he is into.. and if he plays what he is into then he plays techno... if he doesn't well I don't know what he plays then

My point anyways is Force 5.. what out how to treat / talk to people.. personal attacks are not allowed... make your point without calling people names

afterglo..- matt may used to play out more regularly 3-4 years or so back. he played at some of matt drakes earlier parties, i think 'straylight; was one of them. then quite a bit at superfly for the 'i love techno' monthly and 'textures' weekly parties. superfly closed about 4+ years ago after claude young played there. he also was doing the goerge fm 'slipsteam' with miles and emma real early on, maybe from the begining. matt drake sort of replaced him although they did it together for a while. he rarely plays out these, mostly at private parties.
these days hes mostly busy with graphic design, he was partners at 2guns design in ponsonby until recently when he moved on to other projects.

I cant believe that Matt Drake still hasnt gotten a mention...


considering that he was one of the first to produce a 12" as Clone (along with Simon Flower on his Nurture label)


Still the best thing on three decks IMHO
