Only 6 weeks or so until this season kicks off...

Seems Mason can't find a club, looking forward to the All Stars game too
[quote]
Apparently Brett Seymour has been training really well with the team.

...and rumour has it that Steve Price is on the outer with the rest of the team. I hope not because aside from the direct problems with Pricey and possible form, it also alludes to wider problems of cohesion and unity within the team. Ask the Bulldogs what happens when that starts happening... :/

I've heard quite a few stories about how Price isn't liked at all by most of the team :/

I think the Warriors are gonna be pretty terrible this year...
[quote]
Yep. There is almost nothing positive looking about our squad atm and Im pretty much expecting us to get totally and utterly raped in 2010.
[quote]
anyone hitting the warm up game at Albany?

and would Mason look nice in a warriors shirt? Or cant we afford him?
[quote]
Where are you guys hearing this talk of Pricey not being liked by the team? Seems pretty hard to believe..
[quote]
There was a story on stuff about it when he was stripped of the captaincy and I know someone who sometimes travels with the Warriors/Kiwis and has been saying it for ages.

I tihnk "eat arse" was the term one player used to describe him Razz

Nothing concrete mate so I can't attribute any real substance to it. My whanau have been season ticket holders since '95, immortals ticket holders for some of those years, and have developed some friendships with some of the staff and sometimes they talk. Some of the time it's just pure scuttlebutt but other times it's been on point.

Hence me making a caveat about it being a rumour and nothing more.

Personally I hope it's just pure gossip. Smile
[quote]
Lets hope although those sources sound pretty solid. Im not famaliar with the term "eat arse", is that like kiss ass but worse?

Mason doesnt have a club b/c he was horrible last year and appears to be on the decline, agree he would be a terrible and extremely unpopular buy. The guy disrespected the haka and throws hedgehogs at people ffs

Well this is a sad situation. Gptta feel sorry for Price he's been a great servant but its a good example of what happens when sportspeople insist on playing well into their twilight. price could have retired at the end of the 2008 season and been pretty much immortal.

But he decided to play on and in the past year hes tried to start a fight in Origin and got knocked out cold, been stripped of the captaincy at the Warriors and will now have to play out his final season with the allegation he is generally unpopular as a person. Poor guy Sad

......

And yet...I still do find some smidgen of satisfaction knowing that the guy who was routinely trumpted as
"The most popular Australian in New Zeland"...........actually turns out to be an "eat arse"

Pretty sure it's four points if you score the try. Didn't know that you couldn't kick it though...

I think it's an awesome concept. Love how league is opened to trying new tihngs out to make it a more exciting game Smile
[quote]
So is it instead of a conversion?
[quote]
Yeah, instead of a conversion. And you can't kick the ball. In the All Star game on the weekend they did some moves involving walls and stuff to disguise which way the ball was going. Nobody managed to score a try though.

I think teams will generally go for the conversion. Unless they are down by 4 with a few minutes to go. Seems pretty hard to score in one play with a defense that is all set.

I've been hanging out for some loigue action. Been such an uninspiring summer for sport.

That reserves bench is to omit one, likely to be Moon as McKinnon can come on and play fullback and Hohaia can switch to hooker. The backline looks good, without having seen too much of the halves in action that is, but our forwards look a little young and inexperienced.

I think the Titans will be too tough at home and in the hot Queensland sun. Also I heard on 40/20 last sunday that the Titans have decided that they will be wearing their alternative white strip which forces us to wear our black strip. Of course they deny that it has anything to do with us... Cunts.

Well good on John Cartwright for being honest. It was Michael Searle (The Titans CEO) who was originally saying it had nothing to do with us, which was so blatantly patronising it was ridiculous. They could only keep up the ruse for so long...

So Joel Moon just wandered into the old mans workshop after a WOF and mentioned to the old fulla that he'd been told he was going to be in the side on sunday. If he doesn't get selected, I think this is a pretty shitty way of doing things. You should know a lot earlier if you are going to be included or not. The uncertainty doesn't help anyone imo.

Also he mentioned that the players are all convinced there is a conspiracy afoot from the NRL with both their away games played in Queensland at 1pm in the afternoon. Laughing

dalai said:

Disagree totally. Keeping players on the edge of performance peak is essential to get the best out of them, no matter how close game time is. If you tell someone they're not playing there's a distinct chance they'd take their foot off the gas. Treat 'em mean, keep 'em keen.

http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-league/league-news/sowie-rule-wont-stop-kick-chase-says-jamie-20100309-puml.html

quote:
The only major off-season change to the way NRL games are officiated, players chasing a downfield kick will be penalised if in front of where the previous play-the-ball took place...

...In previous seasons, players have only needed to be outside the 10m arc of the kick returner, allowing them to chase earlier and shut down the runs of their opponents...

Two things this season is going to hinge on are the quality of our halves signings (which sounds familiar).....and how good our younger players, particualry the forwards, come through. Backing young kiwis to man up in the NRL isnt far fetched..... as long as they are guided well, so that brings us around to the coaching staff and the signings.

Our back line barring halves has fireepower experience and attitude, so who knows...we could easily have a good season here. Last year we were 3rd/4th favourites to win the Granbd Final....this year we are 3RD TO LAST

Latimore? Or Louisi?

Latimore has come across from Parramatta, young aussie prop. Don't know too much about him tbh. Lousi has come up from the U/20 last year where he was one of the stars of the team. Big Poly second rower, hard runner with some ball skills and an ability to smash cunts. He stood out last year and apparently has trained really well over the off season and has impressed.

While that may be true on some level.... that doesnt completly excuse how bloody terrible he was for us 100% of the time. A true pro would have still managed to catch the ball on occasion?? adn I dont see how Tates absence and our halves should have affect his goal kicking...which was also.... bloody terrible iirc

fuckup.
[quote]
That was frustrating as hell and promising all at once. I really thought we were gonna get a toweling but to come so close and even lead for most of the game tilted the fuck out of me! Neutral
[quote]
Some promising signs there but it was pretty much what I thought would happen. They tailed off towards the end of the game. The end of the 2nd half they just looked utterly dead and from then on, the forwards made little to no go forward and that killed off any chance of further attack.

Halves look good, Maloney played especially well I thought, Heremaia played really well and played himself to a standstill but really... The Titans played shockingly bad and we should have finished them off. Once our forwards get hungrier and more match fit, we'll be more competitive. Plenty of points in that backline though I reckon.

Early days yet, we'll see how they go over the next few weeks of a pretty tough schedule to get a real acid test on how they're going to look this season.

Well then why didnt he do that for us? Thing is you are not the only one I have heard espousing this view that "Its wasnt Kemps fault"....and I find it utterly bizarre. Just wtf wtf Confused

Aaaaaaanyway this season.....agree the Titans were just utterly terrible and I could barely believe my eyes. Its great to see a solid looking halves combination lets hope those two just get better. Lance went well Wade has his work cut off getting back and really liked the look of Lewis Brown too

Hey don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he wasn't shit last year, he was, but anyone who attributes the blame for this solely on him is either oversimplifying the issue or just plain ducking it.

The guy is a winger, what is the one thing wingers are tasked to do? Finish the play. (I know immediately what you're thinking of Maestro Razz ) Now what's the wingers main link men? The Centre and the Halves. Tate was his centre pairing last year and we all know how woefully underperforming our halves were. Now when the player in question has a great season with one club, then a shit one with another club and then begins to show signs that he's about to have another great season with his original club, you have to wonder...
[quote]
Vatuvei was 10x better than Kemp last year and he had the same halves/centres around him.. Kemp often kicked the ball out on the full after opposition tries and led the side in missed tackles - I bet you $50 that when we play the Broncos Ivan Cleary will have us targeting his wing.. can't wait Very Happy

We should've put the Titans away, oh well.. Lance played well.. Lewis Brown is mean..
[quote]
I like to see the stats you pulled those "facts" from bro. IIRC, the player with the worst tackle percentage last year was in fact Lance Hohaia.

Anyways, bloody NRL, I never learn... I switched last nights game off at halftime with Manly dominating, I check the results this morning and the Tigers win! Not a bad start for my tipping. :>
[quote]
quote:
...But his time in Auckland has been far less fruitful. After starting the season on the wing and as the club's first-choice goal-kicker when Michael Witt was shown the door, Kemp was dropped in late May and has been playing for the second-string Auckland Vulcans.

Before he was dumped, Kemp managed only one try in nine appearances and showed defensive frailties, missing a whopping 23 tackles.
