Following on from discussions I've been having this week about old tunes, the origins of house and how the genres crossover (and some personal recommendations) - I'd be quite keen to go see Mr Norman Jay. I admit to not knowing much about him but he sounds like an interesting guy with some interesting ideas!

Anyone whos seen him before care to comment/gurgle with praise?
[quote]
yep -saw him in Sydney a few years back -truly fucking amazing!!!

From soul to funk to hiphop to house...

Open your ears, y'all!!

And Roger and Manuel supporting -fucking perfect!!!

Wicked! That sounds right up my alley! I've been dying to see someone who can mix genres and styles with some sort of . I'll be interested to see if it works and what the crowd response is like because I have a feeling the NY styles may not work in Auckland. We're far too anal.

Manual and Roger are a excellent support choices too.

yay for Norman Jay. So do we think this will be packed or mt? Should be an interesting crowd
[quote]
Well, its a weird day for it to be on and hes not a hard house DJ so it might be on the empty side. I don't care, I'm still going!
[quote]
Yup but with both Norm & Jay playing it should be awikkid night
[quote]
How much are the tickets??
[quote]
$30
[quote]
Just a wee point, transtemporal -Norman Jay is from London, not NY.

His Good Times Soundsystem is the heart and soul of Notting Hill Carnival.

He also founded Talkin'Loud with Gilles Peterson.

Hope that helps...

See ya there!

Shit thats right! Why'd I think he was from NY? References to Larry Levan maybe?

Wow, pretty cool interview too. What an ace guy!

[quote]
Yeah, he went to NY back in the day and bought back house to the UK.

Tomorrow night -can't wait!

Now all I have to do is recover from the weekend by Tuesday night and I'll be sweet!

[quote]
had a great time at norman jay @ grand circle, in fact no nuff of it, no where else to recover...sigh... well, next stop rob salmon @ calibre. does ne one whos the support???
[quote]
Yeah, Norman rocked the party! I spent a lot of time chilling out, enjoying the music and talking to people, which was a bit of a change of pace for me. I'm glad they decided to have it at Grand Circle. It was perhaps a wee bit crowded but it was the right environment for his music.

And how was the track selection?! Man, I wish I could hear that stuff out sometimes. *sigh* Ha ha I loved that accapella of 'finally' over the top of 'flawless'. Worked surprisingly well I thought!

Yo rubberchicken, fish_boy - wicked to meet you guys! Hope I didn't blab on too much!
[quote]
Normans tracks r awesome, personally i dont like "finally" before last nite, but the twisted version with "flawless" is wicked. like i said before, not nuff of it, too little time for such a talented cross-genre djs, pheew!
[quote]
Fuck yeah man, my sentiments exactly. I spoke with so many people last night who were just blown away by Norman, club-kid regulars and accidental tourists alike!
[quote]
Totally agree with all the above.

He was completely wicked -more nights like that please!!
[quote]
Yup, all been said. Fab.
[quote]
Liquid, Rob will be playing on Friday with
Spooky, Greg Churchill and the return of Jason
Halloran who worked with Rob @ Box for about

[quote]

[quote]

[quote]
Yeah check Jason Halloran, nice selector & mixer, even nicer guy - played the last 2 or 3 velvets with us.
[quote]
Norman was fantastic. What a master!!

Cool to hear some timely scratching by the support guy towards the end. Somehow, a bit of scratchin was just right for 5am!
