Has anyone had a problem with their phone freezing up on them and then not being able to turn it off unless you remove the battery. When putting battery back in and turning on the phone it says 'contact service' and you can't even turn it back off without removing battery yet again. Very annoying and it has been for servicing twice already. It's only 5 months old. Sad

This could be a good question for the people who frequent the tech forum. Want me to move it there?
[quote]
Yes thanks if you wouldn't mind harvey. New tech forums huh? nice

is it a telecom phone?

Vodafone Prepay

It's the phone, not the battery or simcard either - just something with the phone and they can't fix it, tell me what the problem is and refuse to replace it with a new phone Sad

My nokia 6210 (about 2 years old) does it occasionally. It doesn't happen often enough that i've ever done anything about it though.

I can't do anything with the phone though, I have to take into the shop everytime, otherwise I can't use it. Damn phones grrrrrr

You best get it fixed then. If they can't fix it, return it for a refund.

this might sound like an odd remedy, but wack it in the fridge for like 15 minutes, and then try it...

there is also the chance you could contact nokia directly and ask them if there is something you could do... also - did you buy it here? if so you should be able to get a replacement under warranty, as it doesn't sound like you are at fault...

No I'm not at fault as they techies have said everytime they fix it that it is under warrantee and that all costs are covered, but the shop won't give me a replacement. It's First Mobile in Tauranga. Do I need to go direct to Vodafone even though I've gone to the shop I bought it from?? Thanks for the advice SMF

If you've given them a reasonble chance to fix it and they haven't managed to, you're entitled to a refund under the consumer guarantees act. consumer.org has some good guides that will inform you of your rights.

Put it in a bag first - the freezing thing is to remove any latent power in capacitors or batteries (take the batteries out).

Im not sure it will fix it tho - ive heard it may be the phone going ot sleep on the network - waiting for something - my phone did it when i was switching countries alot - once i took the batteries out for a day it worked again.

i'm pretty sure that if you bought it througha first mobile then you need to do it through them... basically if your phone continues to malfunction, commando's advice is the best... you are entitled to either a replacement or refund, as you are with any faulty goods... so if it isn't fixed, then you can demand it... but yeah have a look @ the consumer sight so you know what to say a little better if they happen to contest it again...

good luck

Cheers guys. Bit edgy on the freezing thing incase they then say that I have done something to it therefore they are not required to refund or replace - which is fair enough, think I'll just demand if this time is a no goer. I'm good at demanding Smile

girlvybz - if you like you can send me an email and I can arrange to get it serviced for you, courier can come to your place of work with a loan phone and you give them your phone, they will return with your phone and take back the loan phone.

Anway email me if you like and I can look into it for you.

Thanks for the kind offer NormalOne, awesome - but I'll wait for the phone to get back this time and see what happens - if it does it again I'll get a refund or a replacement.

Ditto for the 6310i

Err, its actually a physical defect that about 1 in 1000 Nokia's manufactured suffer from.

The Contact Service can generally be resolved by flashing the phone with the latest firmware available - which I have available at my disposal.

HOWEVER - The recommendation to put the phone in the fridge is idiotic.

I have never heard of such a technique, and it will ONLY lead to moisture/liquid damage.

I am TELLING you, that a replacement phone should be given - as the fault is a DEFECT in manufacturing, it isn't software related (althought it can sometimes be temporarily fixed this way).. But as you haven't recently tampered with your software (unlocking it, or changing its IMEI etc) there is no reason other than PHYSICAL damage (or defect) for it to display Contact Service.

I advise you demand a replacement, or a full refund of the purchase price. First Mobile aren't as big as Vodafone, and are cheap cunts like that. Vodafone would replace it on the second service.

Vodafone don't service the phone, MobileFoneRepair or Accord do it for Vodafone.

If a phone gets serviced a number of times with the same fault then they will eventually have to replace it, but there is no definate number of servicings before they will, it's case by case.

This could be considered as a tech thing or something of unquestionable weirdness...

Now this would be easily fobbed off as a phone problem, yet my husband kindly reminded me that my alcatel used to do the same exact thing, turning off and on, not charging etc etc - I gave that phone to my brother-in-law when I got my new phone. He has had absolutely no problems with that phone since he's had it. Now. While my phone is in the shop, I've borrowed my husband's. That turned off on me yesterday, and keeps swiotching off and on - it is very frustrating...it's never done that to him...ever. Now I just happened to be texting off my brother in law's phone (my old one) tonight, went to send the text and the bloody thing turned off on me....

help !! what on earth could explain this???

Your Sim card must have a problem.

And I know Vodafone outsource their repairs.. I'm saying Vodafone won't cheap-out, and keep servicing the phone.. just so they don't have to replace it. FirstMobile are cheap, and would continue to do it.
[quote]
Nope sorry bud - I bought a new simcard 3 months ago....incase that was the problem
[quote]
It does sound like a SIM problem, possibly compounded by a fault in your hardware (ph.)

Speak to vodafone about it, if your sim is older, it may be a free replacement. Once a new SIM is run in the ph, if the problem still occurs, they should look at the hardware problem more seriously.

Threaten violence, laywers, or violent lawyers.

They can't stuff you around with this, a cellphone's an essential tool. Talk to a manager. If they can't help you, talk to their manager, etc.

I once had a problem with Vodafone, so I found out their CEOs email address and contacted him. I'll tell you what, he got things fixed pretty damn quickly.
[quote]
It does sound like a sim card issue, there is a chance that the new sim card is faulty as well. Weirder things have happened...

Sdriver - Regardless of where the phone is taken in to they all end up being serviced by those 2 places. But Vodafone will at least be much more likely to come to the party if something needs done.

Plus keep in mind that Vodafone don't actually own the phones, the manufacturers do, so it may even pay to contact Nokia on 0800 Nokia1 (it could be 0508 Nokia1).

Got my phone back...finally! So thanks for all your advice and fingers crossed I don't have to send it back again Sad Cause then they'll be trouble Mad
