No tree on the hill?

Nice to see that although he has the time amd money to block off queen street. John Banks cant put a tree back on the lonely one tree hill. I am begining to hate this man with a vengence.

Kinda funny a man with 12 cars (reputidly) thinking spending maybe $20,000 dollars on a tree is a waste of money. Personally id like a tree there, maybe he could scrap the closing ueen st thing and from the money savedfrom doing that he could pay for the tree.

Maybe somebody should start a campaign to plant a tree back on the hill and start a collection. You could organise a one tree hill dance party with all proceeds going to restoring the national icon! Prove that the people of New Zealand have alot more sense and motivation than the politicians who are going to debate the point for a couple more years.

I think a nice pohutukawa would be lovely at christmas time or a Kauri for stablity.

There were 6 pohutukawa tress there i think but only a pine survived. or was the 6 pines and 1.. Anyway only the pine survived, as its quite an exposed location.

Pohutukawa is a low level `beach front' type native, not really ideal for the exposed hill as Bob said. Kauri would take 2 years to reach 2/3 meters then 400 more for the rest. Pine, well thats just not PC now is it! Hows about you plant a big dope plant up there, then the hardcore activists can cut it down every year to please the `warrior' inside, Banks can sell the proceeds to cover the next planting and no doubt up grade his `man of the people' car, and we can all sit around - smoke the dope & talk about just how we remember that ol pine tree.

I reckon a Puriri, Ive tried chopping up some puriri wood before with a chainsaw and the stuff is that hard the blade just about bounces off. Plus they are a wicked looking tree

How about we just have the hill covered in high density housing and be done with it.

I just had another idea. How about we build a giant flying fox that runs from the top of the sky tower to one tree hill (I'm assuming the sky tower is higher than one tree hill - I am no expert on these matters).

Or you could have a couple of cardboard cut out's of trees and then you could alternate them according to the season! Maybe put a few Moas in there too!

I am serious about the dance party I think somebody should think about it!! It would be mad...

I love One Tree Hill, bugger the tree is gone. Damn some good memories up there. The statue monument thing looks so lame up there on its own, like music without the sound.

This is nothing to do with banks, he's just said 'im not spending any more money on it' and fair enough too, as several of you pointed out a new tree would cost less than $100 (including a nice plaque etc) so why the hell would he want to spend another $20,000+ on it.
