He's retiring from next year

http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2009/02/18/1234632882538.html

He is a good commentator and is a good balance to those blithering idiots Mark Taylor/Mark Nicholas etc

No shit, best in the business! It'll be sad to see him go.

Far from the best in the business these days. They've only kept him on this long as a token gesture for such a long and fantastic tenure. He now takes a back seat and really only sits there stating the obvious, offering little in opinion or genuine observation.

Love the guy, but definitely time to go. Farewell old chum, I've thoroughly enjoyed everything he's had to offer over the years.

Yup. And still, best in the business.

Mark Nicholas sucks the aussie cock a little too much but he is better than those other young channel 9 twits.

Richie Benaud has still got it though, granted he doesn't spend much time in the box anymore, unfortunately cos that means we have to put up with Healy and Taylor more often, but when he does, he's till as sharp as a tack. He made some startling comments during the recent Hadlee-Chappell series and put some of the one eyed crackers in the box next to him to shame. His reading of players techniques is still second to none and he is probably the most unbiased out of all the channel 9 commentators.
[quote]
I like tony grieg cause he at least provides a little balance. The rest suck far far far too much aussie cock (note, this doesn't mean tony grieg doesn't suck aussie cock too).
[quote]
Bill Lawry is the most entertaining by a country mile -- he gives me mad lulz, and he's not on the Aussie cock to the extent that everyone seems to think he is Razz

It's going to be unbearable in 10 years when Healy, Taylor and co. are at the helm of that commentary team Neutral
[quote]
Bill Lawry Neutral How can you possibly think he isnt the biggest sucker of Aussie cock g?

And I dont buy that "He hypes up good performances from opposition players as well" arguement.....thats just his cover so he can suck more cock

I think I hate Healy more as a commentator than I did as a player, and I hated him A LOT

+ one noticing Benaud was starting to wane a little in genuine contribution & insight, stands to reason. What is he? 70?

Laughing Laughing Laughing

I think the series against SA really showed it to be true though. He was all over the SA players' cocks! And, conversely, he had some choice words for the Aussies in that series Razz

Word. He's a blithering idiot who's more biased than anyone else to step into a commentator's booth, ever.

Mark Nicholas is an utter tool as well Neutral
[quote]
Richie is 78!!!

Debuted in the commentary box in 1960 I believe, so will be his 50th year next season!

Healy is painful to listen too, so biased- it's a pity you can't change the Commentary like you could with the Rugby League a few months back.

the thing with the aussies commentators is if they're are losing, the opposition suddenly become gods... it's never Aus are playing crap - they're incapable of that!

Tony Greig is usually the first to wade into the Australians if they're not playing well but I find him a little too obstinate at times. He doesn't really take the opinions of the others into consideration.

Agreed.

Ian Healy is the biggest Aussie cunt on the planet.

Oh, and...

**lighter** for Benaud.

Legend.

Exactly - they suck the oppositions cock when they're losing but only because it reflects better on Australia. Whenever their team gets back on top of the game it's all "ahh yes - we KNEW they would do it! that's why they're the best!" etc.

Nicoloson is only marginally better than the other fuck-heads on 9.
[quote]
Benaud = Legend. No doubt about it but of late we haven't heard to much from him. The new guys are taking over.

Mark Nicholas is good but still loves the Aussie cock, but lets face it there is not ONE commentator that is Australian that doesnt like the cock!

I like Tony Greig.

Ian Chappell can suck on my chubby ... same with Healy!

I think I agree with Rattue or Leggat, whoever wrote that he's sucking cock to get his Australian citizenship...

Heh. To be fair, I'm not sure he wrote it, but it was in one of the sporting editorials in the Herald. Razz
[quote]
Yeah, remember though that Nicholas wouldn't be around in Aus for long if he was too critical of the aussies... Remember when Hadlee got told he was never allowed back because he complained when Dean Jones was used as a runner? (I'm sure there were other reasons too, but that was the public one). If you say the wrong thing, you could be kicked out... (which is ironic really, considering - other than maybe Beanaud - Hadlee was a better player than any of that lot.

I always liked Nicholas's commentary in the England matches, altho he doesn't do Sky which has all the cricket now... but I have lost a bit of respect of him for selling out to the Aussies
[quote]
Strongly disagree that Mark Nicholas smokes too much Australian pole. If anything he has a tendency to overhype or be overly positive about almost everyone that plays international cricket. He does use the word 'wonderful' a lot.

The one good thing that the Australian commentators have going these days is how much they rip shit out of each other as former players and current commentators. They especially rip Bill Lawry- which is superb because he clearly doesn't know how to take it. They hassle him for being so pro-Melbourne, his pidgeons, his excessive hyperbole etc etc, and he just backs it up with more of what they're hassling him about.

I'm not a Slater fan, but he's especially good at this.

Hahahaha, yeah, I love that shit!

Excellent example of it:

Tony Greig also gave him heaps of shit this summer about never being given out LBW in a single game for Australia in Australia (which is a pretty fucked up statistic really).

heh funny shit...

but yeah, it was actually pretty common for Aussies to get the best of the umpiring decisions on those days... they were as bad as the Indians...
