hrmm was supposed to go to Fiji but we're not going anymore .. probably go to Matarangi or just stay in Auckland haven't quite decided.
I'm not too fussed these days...

if I was a younger chap I'd consider coro gold, lineups not that inspired.. but solid enough .. location and camping options look like it'd be a fun place to lose ones mind

but instead I'll resort to my default option and stay well away from any organised festivities and have a quiet few drinks with close friends either in auckland or some beach bach type arrangement

I'm gonna be all about the outdoor events. Keen to hit Coro Gold, Kiwiburn, WOMAD and Rainbow Serpent (Melbourne) over the summer

I might be in Auckland, so expect big things to be happening and lots of people out and about celebrating (which they will be doing because i'm in town... not because of the fact it's new years).

Possibly Berlin, organisation is lacking at this point though.

That's a super Coro Gold line up ... be hard pressed to get such a good local line up at many other places at New Years.

Other than De La Soul, that line up looks like any other nz summer gig, winter gig, any fucking gig. Roots reggae with a seasoning of generic rock yaaaaaaawn.

Coro Gold is what it is - a relatively safe business proposition, saying that so are pretty much all the NYE festivals that have had similar lineups for almost a decade

edit: not saying it wouldn't be a blast... but you'd not go ONLY for the lineup as if you like music you'd have seen most of these acts more than once in the past 18 months - possibly last year at coro gold http://www.coromandelgold.co.nz/page/62-2011-line-up

Blah, a whole bunch of background music bands. Shihad is the only cool thing and they totally don't go with the rest of the line up.

Hmmmm... Depends on my work situation. I got first dibs last year for time off so this year I'll be lower down the dibs list. I'll get some time off at some point during summer, would like to go back up to Mangawhai Heads for a bit. Found an amazing bach there and I'm keen to get back to it!

Perfect dub/reggae line up with a bit of DnB thrown in ... in actual fact it's like almost the best of the NZ dub/reggae minus maybe the Black Seeds

Corogold is 2 night now. It was very average when only 1 night and it stopped at 2am.
RNV lineup coming out around mid this month, could be massive due too its 10 year milestone.

R20 camping onsite or maybe just book a house. Hard to beat the 3 day rnv when its mint weather.

Northernbass in in mangawhai and headlined by ANDY C. Could also be a good local one.

I really like them I listen to them all the time .. so that is so sucky to hear but I still would like to see them... when did go to that what year was it?

They might be different now, and Im certainly not the one ask about a hippity hop group. I just found it to be really forced and fake (all style and no substance - weak vocals, missing cues etc..) Well compared to Che and his band of kick ayass muso's (his drummer Pauly is one of my faves from NZ - he makes three drums sound like twenty!!)
Anyway, this was aaaages ago, Im talking 10 years maybe, when they still had ITF comps in NZ.

On a side note, P Money completely rolled everyone to the point where his opponent didnt even wait for the score before packing up and walking off the stage. He was beat juggling two copies of Breathe by the Prodigy.....he half timed it (for those that dont know - thats all kind of holy shit!! - go and google beat juggling)

We used to have battle cd's to listen to in the car.

That was actually my fave moment from this years Splore...Q-Bert I just loves him. Crazy 80's video game samples, off kilter percussion drops, and atomic crab scratches.

back then I was a huge Invisble Scratch Piklez fan, must have about a dozen of their scratch CDs and a number from Q-Bert and others from the bay area

in a past life at a job I did we hired a exhibition space at the ag fielddays in the tron and had a young Maori dude scratching up a storm (awesome scratcher, shit taste in hip hop) - we were lucky to get out of there with out lives...
