is matt the only one who is gona do 3deck?
dont forget to compress that 909, you dont wana blow the speakers like jeff mills did at the kase so many years ago.
its good to see mike geddes getting a slot. cant imagine why he's been out of circulation for so long. where you been keeping your textures?

we were there too jamecs
had a ball!
funky fun for all the family LOL

I am not sure if Mike, Miles or Han have had much exposure to doing 3 decks, Miles has done it a couple of times (should do more!!). Maybe the problem is the povity of the general techno community with having no space to practice!!! I've only ever used 3decks out anyhow, so it's often a trial by fire - I was lucky enough to click the first time I did it (way way back at Straylight).
No probs with the 909... The main problem is when you are using more than 2 tracks with the low end in full, not ness. the 909 raw, even though this does add a very uncontrolled signal into the path> I'm more concerned with the effects!!!! Smile
I'd reccomend everyone getting along early, Han has promised some serious Detroit schooling, and MIke has a bag full of the freshest shit in the world he's ready to unleash with his rock solid skills.

Just curious, with all the trouble the techno scene has faced over the last few years, clubs and promotors loosing money, difficulties etc. and the crowds numbers being insufficient to cover the basic costs of an international dj - does anyone have any good ideas on how Auckland or NZ can get the international Djs without people loosing out?
I've had people come to me with ideas of getting a members pool together, we can post a mail to the list for offers of who'd want to see international DJ "x", and then the fees can be split between everyone, making is safe, although a bit more expensive than normal. This way parties can be run democratically, the djs who everyone wants to see can get their chance, and more hype beforehand as some folks who don't know who "Dj bigname" is can do a little research before they commit. Everyone can then pay their 50% deposit just like the promotor, the party doesn't have any of the other shit involved like radio, flyers to keep the price up, and nobody feels like anyone 'might' be making money (hahaha)... Only problem is you'd need at least 100 people on the pool to make it work.
After seeing one of the biggest house djs ever loose thousands and thousands of $$ with a huge advertising campaign only a few weeks back, it's not just techno that faces these problems.

A pool sounds like a bloody good idea, however actually managing the process sounds like a logistical nightmare (i.e coordinating funds and getting 100 people plus to actually come to some kind of consensus).

I personally think the problem NZ and AK especially is facing is over-saturation. International DJ's are not really a 'special' event anymore as there's basically one in some shape or form out here every weekend. Therefore parties aren't getting as many casual clubbers through the door (who go for the events rather than specifically individual) and although I'm loathe to admit it these are the people who carry a large scale event and provide the bulk of ticket sales.

Perhaps it's time for the market to back off a little and concentrate on the fact that we've got an excellent and diverse base of local talent here who aren't being utilised to their full potential...

i think a pool would work, a solid data base should deff get built up asap. frequent news, ideas and feedback should be pushed. maybe get some statistics from a techno census and see from there. there will always be paranoia when money is concerned, but it is also possible to handle that like an open company where everyone is able to see the inner workings etc. look at alternative nights like sundays and thursdays and get the punters out early, who the hell likes waiting till 2am for the shit to go off anyway. internationals charge less for those nights and theres more chance of booking them while their in oz already. id be more than pleased to head out on a thursday night and catch the likes of ben sims at 10pm, have my fill, go home and be able to work the following day. just nead to reprogram peoples ideas on what a night out is.
thats my bit for now. ive got more ideas but ill wait till i catch you up for a face to face..

i dont think AK techno nead worry about over saturation of overseas talent, we get maybe 2 or 3 international techno djs here a year. and thats on a good year.

Ben Sims on a Thursday for $5000AUD...+flights and accom. is a good deal. This is what we contend with, fees for the great djs aren't cheap. While there's ample room to talk people down, what it comes down to is the bottom line, and the general apathy of the techno scene given a great opportunity. Claude Young for a FUCKING good deal, with a really creative promotional angle, great space, plenty of time, and the room to really flex his skills and still falling short of the min number of people is a bad sign. Great party tho Wink
[quote]
hey matt, maybe we should hit claude young up for that free gig he promissed us after the superfly gig lost money. remember he said he would come back that following september. he lives in dublin now doesnt he, lets send him an email.
[quote]
good call sander..good call
[quote]
yeah let's get Claude back
[quote]
Matt, I'm fully into this.
www has the idea, make it's workings as transparent as possible and then people are likely to be more willing to part with their cash.
I'd be more than prepared to help chip in early if that meant getting a few international tek-meisters over here.
As said before, I have good contacts in Melbourne who'd surely be keen to come over and support this idea.
