All the ones in the first link are rehashes of existing cars. The first examples are photoshops of the existing Camaro. The G8 is a bodged attempt at grafting a pontiac front end on a Mazda 6.

The second links are mostly renderings. The only real concept car is the Enclave that was shown as NAIAS in January.

Some of the photoshops in the second link are pretty good though. In particular the Roadmaster and the LaCrosse.

Yes I thought that was all fairly obvious?

Taking the existing car and then developing a prototype of a future one was the whole point of the exercise?

I don't mean to get technical but these are not prototypes, they do not exist physically. They are renderings. What studio does he work out of? I don't do much work with GM but I am pretty sure they wouldn't make a G8 with a Mazda 6 rear. I don't think the chief designers would be happy to receive renderings that are so obviously unoriginal.

Look I'm not a car buff all I know is they are futuristic models that have been created from the perspective of 'how might they look in the future'?

Errr I didn't say they were being created for GM Laughing It's a car fan website who indulges in all sorts of speculation - or did that small fact pass you by?

And a prototype can be a sketch model Smile

Ummm, prolly the title 'New Pontiacs' and then the blurb attached to all of the pictures giving details of the platforms and drive trains etc was somewhat misleading. This may have led me astray. Actual spy shots and such are released all the time via fan sites. No worries.

a prototype is a full size model that's usually working. concept drawings are not, and should not be labelled, "prototypes."

"or did that small fact pass you by?" - perhaps know what you're talking about before being so smug.

All our cutomers actually require us to provide a car for them to show, not a sketch to hang on the wall.

At what point is an American car not an American car? What exactly designates something to be an American car?

These days all cars have influence and parts from all over the world.

Is a Camry american? Is a rebadged Holden an American car?

I think in this instance it refers to a muscle influence or any car that's big, chunky, and likely to be inefficient Wink

well it was touched on in one of those links, but it's official now

http://www.leftlanenews.com/2006/09/29/official-pontiac-badged-holden-commodore-in-february/

"General Motors will import the new Holden Commodore to the United States and badge it as a Pontiac, according to Vice Chairman Bob Lutz. He said the car will be unveiled at the Chicago auto show in February. "Come to the Chicago auto show and all we be revealed," Lutz told Australia's Drive magazine yesterday at the Paris Motor Show.

Rumors about such a move have circulated ever since the new Commodore debuted in July. Some reports suggest the car will wear the Grand Prix nameplate, while others indicate it will be called the Pontiac G8. In August, Motor Trend magazine published an illustration on the cover of its October issue of how a Commodore with a Pontiac nose might look (pictured). It's now widely expected the Grand Prix/G8 will essentially look this way."

(that pic is a rendering too, but word is that's very close to what it will actually look like)

I do know what I am talking about - that is how it was described to me Smile

If it means something different to you - then sweet as, whatever Smile

I just thought this was an interesting thing, but then I do love American cars and recognise that many people do not.

Peace Smile
