I have a Jas Jam and while its a great pocket PC it sucks as a phone.

Looking at an e series nokia - suggestions?

Needs modem function, dont care about camera so much.

E71

Easily the best E series EVER!! Solid construction, quick, like lightening fast with multiple tasks running!!!! And since you've probably used Activesync for email it will feel identical setting up email. Also has provision for setting up 6 separate IMAP/POP email accounts using Nokia Email. Runs 16GB microSDHC cards easy.

Integrated navigation with Nokia Maps.
WiFi.
3.2MP camera.

I'm a HEAVY user and will get through 2 days easy without recharging.

Media player is alright but theres a couple of 3rd offerings that work better.

If you've got question fire away.

Oh and modem wise, its plug and play, so the VF software is preloaded, all you do is plug it in, select APN, it connects then launches the browser. Its also capable of running on VF's new 900mhz 3G network so will work in more places on HSDPA.

I've got a Nokia 6220 Classic which is doing me good at the moment. Basically 5Mp camera, GPS w/ Nokia Maps, with Symbian functionality in a smaller form factor. Nice and quick too.

Cheers, Its a little on the big size, im considering losing the qwerty keyboard and going for a smart phone type deal like the e61. gah i know that what ever i buy it will come down in price not long after.

Cant bring myself to buy an iphone.

I think the nokia is the way to go but trying to decide on a standard phone or an all in one.

Will it work in Canada/US?

Any other suggestions?

Its really not that big the E71 dude. Very thin and feels solid without being to heavy. Much better in the pick than my iPhone or JasJam.

The phone is QUAD band GSM (850,900,1800,1900 and DUAL Band 3G (900,2100) so while you'll get GSM pretty much anywhere you'll be limited on 3G

The E66 is identical in terms of features to the E71, but is in a slide form factor.

Right, so like any smart person unsure about a tech purchase i convinced someone else to buy the e66 and have had a play.

Nice phone, easy to handle and about the right size.

Software first impressions - not as easy to navigate as past experience with nokias (its been a while) but im sure id get used to it.

GPS - 'my location' told me i was in italy somewhere, maybe poor reception, havent had a chance to test outside.

Mail for exchange - doesnt seem as good as activesync but ok so far - it also seemed to say not to use the email suite if you use exchange - a bit annoying if so as i use exchange and 2 imap email addresses currently.

its strange going back to a numberpad after all the years of qwerty so im not completely sold on it. It was bearable and compared to the e71s small qwerty it might be the go.

In my experience, GPS does tend to be pretty shitty indoors, particularly on first boots.

Stupid radio signal blocking metal roofs! Mad

I did hold it by the window but signal was still fairly crap. Im just wondering why it took me to italy though (it moved me there) rather than 'not enough signal'.

Is it a Parallel Imported handset?

If so use Map Loader (part of PC Suite) to load the NZ Maps on. Being that it also has A-GPS which using data on the VF network for get an approximate fix you should get "some" in building coverage

In terms of your email issue, it is meant to say do not use PC Suite for Contact/Email sync.

If you want more than one IMAP/POP email sign up to the Nokia Messenger service and you can have up to 6. Its free. http://email.nokia.com

If you want to see whether you're getting satellite data and which satellites it can see go Menu>GPS>GPS Data>Posistion>Options>Satellite Status.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Nah its a vfnz one.

Will have more of a play later.

If you're using Exchange at work, you can also get Mail for Exchange, which is proving to be an excellent application. Not without its faults, it definatly has some kinks to work out, but gives Blackberry like functionallity.
I'm currently using it with my N96 and love it.

Right have had a play with the e66 and an iphone. I like the iphone to some degree but have some misgivings still.

The e66 is ok but i dont like how it seems to do active sync email, its certainly not as user friendly as the imate or iphone.

Might wait a little bit longer and see if something better comes along.

5800... I'm using one... its great Razz

I actually prefer the N96 to the N85, I like the HUGE amounts of memory and the kickstand. Nice screen on the N85 though. You can run Mail for Exchange on all new S60 Nokia's now, but if you didn't like it on the E66 its not going to be any different.
