There has been a new drug developed that only acts on the hypothallimus (sp?) that keeps people awake and removes the need for sleep. Speedy drugs have nasty side effects such as increased heart rate, increased body temperature and decreased attention span etc.

This new drug is being used to treat narcolepsy (sp?) and has been used for military purposes. It has been tested on blackhawk helicopter pilots and pilots with no sleep for 40 hours performed just as well as those who did sleep normally.

Would this drug be more appealling as an alternative to speed, nemisis, exodus, etc to stay awake for the dance parties / clubs if readily available?

What are your thoughts?

it will fuck you up bigtime.
[quote]
well it would really depend on what sort of effects ot had on you long term and for how long it lasted etc... could get a bit boring if your weekend ended up going bad....

I had it back in 'Nam.....now I have diphallicterata

Do you

(a) Take drugs for the high
(b) Take drugs to stay awake

Many would suggest (a) AND (b) are bad. Personally I think that (b) IS FUCKING STUPID and (a) is... OK :o)

I discovered these a long time ago.

Don't tell anyone, but if you look in the secret shelf hidden in the dark corner of your local supermarket, you'll find them.

They're called:

HEARDS BARLEY SUGARS

Watch out, they give you an initial HIT that sorta leaves you a bit giddy.

You were warned

There must be some side affects, is there a link to this? Its not normal!

I would rather speed.

I'm with Sarin on this -especially after meeting a geezer on Xmas eve who'd been up for nine -yes, nine- days straight on the burn.

Um, why?

It was on the ABC news for the US last week. Doctors have discovered no short term side effects, and are currently studying the long term side effects. I can not remember the name of the drug. If there are no long term side effects (seems unlikely) then this drug could remove the need for sleep. Commonly used by pilots in the US military for long missions in 40-60 hour stints.

9 days???!!! - was as he was getting carted of to the secure psych ward @ middlemore hospitial at the time ? (or was he exaggerating?) Still crazy is not the word !!!

the need for sleep runs a lot deeper than because you feel tired. removing the feeling of tiredness does not mean you no longer need to sleep.

if someone gets their leg bitten off by a shark, does taking some painkillers put their leg back on?

[quote]
Shyguy, thanks. I read about it somewhere a while ago. I am skeptical though. If you find out the name I would be interested to find out more about it.
[quote]
Bennor, but if a shark bit off you leg, could you stay awake longer? Or will you:

(a) Fall over a lot
(b) Walk in circles

Riddle me that

It doesnt work like speed and other uppers which dont remove the need for sleep. This drug apparently stops the bodys need for sleep without side effects like paranoia and aggression (meth).

I can imagine it will be fairly restricted or expensive drug i wonder how easy it would be to make it in a lab.

I've seen a bit of info about this, and like Bob said it gets rid of the need for sleep. Its not just for keeping you awake.
[quote]
then it will probably remove the need for sleep at the expense of lifespan...
[quote]
To be honest I dont do drugs JUST to stay awake. Its that AND the combined effects of how they make you feel whilst on them which is the attractant for me. I'm sure others must feel this way too
[quote]
although promising, your body cannot go for extended periods without sleep as the brain requires REM sleep to process information gathered. This is why insomniacs (sp?) start to get fucked up...
