New coinage in NZ. Thoughts?

Had some friends just arrive in the UK. Showed me the new NZ coins. I didn't even know they'd changed. Makes me feel like I'm getting even more out of touch with NZ . For those who also didn't know:

Goodbye Tuatara. No more 5c coins.
Goodbye Silver 10c. They're now bronze.
No more big kiwi on the 20c coin, it's been replaced with a smaller and thinner coin with a tiki.
The Endeavor has also shrunk to half it's size, and doesn't look quite so mighty.

Interesting comparing them to the old ones. Certainly easier to carry around a pocketfull of change.

i would've kept the kiwi and replaced the Endeavor. We've got a bag full of nz coins, that are going to be worthless by the time we get back!! damn, i should've given them to my mum when she was here. I wonder how long the bank will redeem them after Oct 31st. The less coins the better i reckon. but i hate small coins.
is it because nz are cutting costs? is it like a big corporate restructuring/downsizing to save money? i don't know how these things work.

I think the 50c was the biggest coin in circulation in the world... forgot how massive they were...

anyway, who uses cash in NZ?

$1 coin has the kiwi on it, hence the 20c change to the Tiki.

They were the same size as 5 swiss francs apparently, rather handy for the bus and other vending machines there! If you're still to go, i'd see about tracking some down

it would be outragous if they ditched the kiwi huh? the whole country would be violently protesting in the streets, blowing up parliament and shit. damn radical kiwis
