New Autechre album + crucial question

It looks cool although of course I will have to reserve judgement till I've had a listen. Didn't care so much for their last one.

How heavy is vinyl normally? Is this different? Does it sound better? Or just last longer?

Yes we can get it although it will be substantially more
expensive than the standard pressing.. probably $60+
Bear in mind that the Vincent Gallo album was close to
$80. 180g alludes to the fact that it is "virgin vinyl" ie not
re-used/recycled vinyl which makes up 99% off all vinyl
pressings these days. (anyone who can remember the
horrendous "red" Trax re-presses from the early nineties
will know what I'm talking about). Yes they are heavier
than standard albums and the improvement in sound
quality is disernable. So yeah, if you can afford it, by all
means go for it. Until very recently 180g vinyl has been
solely the domain of Blue Note re-issues and more
recently Linn Recordings and a few other esoteric US
audiofile labels.
