66-64 sudden death golden goal win to us!! Yay the Silver Ferns!!!! Australia and New Zealand are so far ahead of everyone else in netball it is just silly; but what a game! Tutaiaia was fantastic, potting those long range goals and nailing the winner all ice cold like! And what a hero Casey Williams is, cramping up but still going hard!!

A game for the ages and well worth re-watching.

Re-watching? My god man. 20 demerit points for posting a netball thread and 15 more for all the gushing. What the hell is wrong with you

Normally I think Netball is one of the worst sports created on account of the constant whistle blowing and the fact that every decision just seems to be some sort of random coin toss that could've gone either way. If it weren't for the hotties it would be unbearable... However, that match was enthrallingly tense, admittedly I only saw the second half and extra time, but it would've been impossible not to get a massive national pride on at the finish when you saw the sheer ecstasy on their faces as they rolled around the court celebrating, and the utter desolation on the faces of Aussies.

Dry humping at the end was most excellent

Netball man... haters gon' hate. I reckon it's a solid sport that creates an incredible spatial awareness and a variety of skills that is seen nowhere else in sport. I'm not shy in coming forward to say that I'm a bit of a netball fan, and will always make an effort to watch a Ferns game where poss. I don't watch the provincial stuff, but then I never watch S15 or ITM cup either.

Getting annoyed at the whistle blowing and thinking it's a 'coin toss' just shows you don't know the game, which is silly because it's pretty damned easy to understand. It's a lot less of a coin toss than fucking HOCKEY that's for sure. Hockey can die in a fire.

On point, amazing game last night. As you say - game for the ages. I don't give a shit about the CWG, but it's so satisfying to know that at least one of our teams didn't choke against the green and gold machine - no matter how much those squinty Aussie whores battled, we gave it back just as hard.

I was, however, DISGUSTED by the commentary and their lack of explanation over the rules around extra time and sudden death at the end of the second period of ET. They made no mention of us having to go ahead by 2, and furthermore when it was all tied up near the supposed 'end' of the second period they were harping on about how there was only '20 seconds' left for NZ to score. Well the fucking game went on for another 10 MINUTES or so with us being left completely in the dark as to when/how it might end.

Was very stressful! Luckily I had about 10 beers to calm myself.

Yeah, they did take a while to mention the 2 point thing. I was a bit WTF when the game kept going after they said there was 20 seconds on the clock.

Very happy NZ managed to win. They did blow a bunch of chances before finally winning though ...Aussie did too as well.

One thing I think they should implement in netball is a foul count similar to basketball. Netball is no longer played like the old days. There's heaps of deliberate contacts etc to try and upset the opposition and I think there should be at least some limit to which a player can infringe.

Nah that would ruin the game. The intensity comes from the fact that these girls can put intense pressure on the pass and player at all times. If that means contact, then so be it. It doesn't really slow the game down because of the ever constant advantage rule. It's basically a cost benefit thing - they know they're going to get pinged for contact or distance, but at the end of the day you HAVE to go for everything 100%, otherwise you get walked all over.

Also a player can be sin binned for constant infringing, in the World Champs final at some point we had a player sin binned. I don't think it's for very long but it does happen.

The problem I see though is often advantage isn't given when it could be, which means the opposition successfully slows down a team that gets on a roll by deliberately infringing. Aussie have always been quite good at it.

lol Rips you really are quite stupid Very Happy

I saw the last 10 minutes and the aftermath, but was only really watching for the tension factor and the chance to see the Aussie go down. The charm of netball is def lost on me,... but its not a gender thing. I dont like basketball either

I was watching on Aus TV here and they fully explained the rules for extra time including the 2 point rule long before it was even an issue, it was like they could see it coming a mile off.

Was pretty funny towards the end as the male commentator almost completely lost his voice from the excitement.

Overall the commentary was excellent even from the point of view of an NZ supporter.

I hate netball but anytime we beat Australia is awesome.

I have always enjoyed netball but found it incredibly frustrating to watch, particularly when we play aussie Razz
I watched the last quarter though and I am glad I did. That was an EPIC match, and so proud that they actually lasted the distance Smile
