November last year I bought an Audi A4 1997 1.8 from a car dealer in P'North and since then I had 3 warranty claims on it already!! It’s now had a new cooling system pump, head gasket and a complete transmission recondition done on it. I think it's safe to say that I bought a lemon!

The car still has a few issues like: temperature control display flashes for no reason, the dash by the windscreen is slowly curling up (probably because of sun damage), sometime it rev's really high going up hills and says that way for ages...

Anyway, as you can imagine I am debating whether to keep the car or not. I paid $12,000 for it with 74,000k on the Odo, with a 3 year DriveRight warranty ($600), it is an ex-japan car and people think that the service history my be dodgy.

I was thinking of maybe getting a Mazda Familia 1999 hatch, I know that most of them are only 1500cc, but it'd be good to save money on petrol! With my Audi I get about 450k on a full $85 tank of petrol, is that piss poor or ok for an 1800cc engine?

What do you guys reckon? Should I sell it quick before I have to change the cam-belt (Odo is currently 85,000k) and something else goes wrong with it? Or should I run the car to the ground and deal with any other costs that may or may not come up?

Let me know what you think!

Do you issues with Audi A4's?

I thought I've just bought a lemon and kindof put me off euro cars... so I'm getting a jap car next time round!

You have to watch out for imported euros especially those from Singapore where it is super hot and the air con is run premanently. I have an audi and its given me no problems so far and has done 63kms although its NZ new.

I doubt your kns are legit. If its overheating then its likely done over 160kms. Its coming into summer but remember you have a mechanical warranty. This sort of thing can happen to any import and you shouldn't let it put you off nz new euros.

yeah, I think its a lemon because its a euro ex japan!

so what you guys think, should i give it a flick and get myself something else or just run it to the ground?
