I'm a bit of a vocal houser and have a bit of a problem. I have never actually seen a dj play a vocal set, where do I go or who do I have to seek out overseas to fill this void in my life. It's a learning thing, gotta hear how it's done by a master to get an idea where I should be going with it. Any suggestions will be welcomed

Tony humphries spins a fair amount of vocal stuff.

Hey touch, have you got the "Mad Styles and Crazy Visions" out on BBE. 3 CD's - one mixed by Little Louie Vega, the other 2 CD's are the singles unmixed (such a good format!). Featuring MAW, Faze Action, Joey Negro, Two Tons Of Fun, Roy Ayers, Blaze, Mood II Swing, Spiritual Life, Ibadan and Roy Davis Jnr.

I got it years ago from CD Store - very nice CD, still one of my fav mix CD's. Has a fair bit of vocals in it.

I've also got an old Dave Aude CD that is very Garage & Vocal.

Maybe you should try and get in contact with Jolly B who plays at the Velvets, he's been spinning Garage for many many years...

ta Mata and Flav. I will go seekin what you suggested. As for Jolly B I willhead down to the next Velvet to check him out, as I have never been to a velvet before (I am very sorry). From what I have noticed in the past mixing Garage seems to be more about the choons than 2 min mixes, is I right here or just a bit dumb

I feel a bit sorry for Jolly B as when he first came to NZ nobody was into his Garage - he played quite a bit of two step, and it was real nice stuff that came out before the commercialism. It was just like 'breakbeat house' I suppose for me. I really really enjoyed it. He's evolved his style over time to more be more suitable for Auckland ears - but it is still very garage. I don't want to speak for him though as I don't know all that much about what might really going on - it's just my thoughts.

He is a wicked dude, very friendly and supportive - passionate to - as well as some very fine skills. He's played UK and Ibiza etc. So he's been around...

Respect re JollyB - wonderful guy, lovely DJ.

Another to check may be Philippa when playing at ink, generaly starts quite garagey and vocaly then invariably fattens it up, in her own old school/ funky/ housey/ discoey/ garagey way!!!!!!!!!!!
