...Than when National came into government. Another 30,000 have given up looking for work.

That is 60,000 New Zealanders who have lost their jobs since National won the election. At this rate there will be an extra quarter million unemployed by the 2011 election.

http://www.stats.govt.nz/~/media/Statistics/Browse%20for%20stats/HouseholdLabourForceSurvey/HOTPJun09qtr/hlfs-jun09-qtr-alltables.ashx

Now, we have all been told ad infinitum that we can't do much about the global recession, but National are doing NOTHING AT ALL.

The cycle way is the centre piece of the governments response and it is a joke, what is it - a PROJECTED 120 jobs with MAYBE another 160 later?

Bill English's only response has been to engage in the Herbert Hoover like economics of cutting jobs and spending in a recession, which as the 1930's showed us just makes things worse.

In a crisis like this, we expect the government to be doing something to help, not standing by comparing the size of their perks and engaging in slanging matches with teenage girls.

National is still trying to cleanup the fuckup that was the Labour goverment. And in doing so it taking some time to get all the processes in place to create more work. But if you pull your little head out of your ass for one moment and take the blinkers off you would have already noticed this Smile

What recession

Underlying state of the economy ain't National's fault, yet. The complete deer-in-the-headlights approach to try and put some kind of brake on it certainly is.

You mean the mess that Bill English referred to when he said he had inherited an economy in good shape? That mess?

Or maybe it is mess that was near full employment? Is that the mess you are thinking of?

Or maybe you are sure that if only Michael Cullen had followed Don Brash's advice in 2005 and slashed taxes, the deficit would be of Icelandic proportions now?

Face it, Labour merely coasted through some of the most prosperous times in history as if improvements were through their doing when they generally were not.

Well, they got found out. Against the nations we like to compare ourselves to as a measure of living standard, cost of living etc we still crept backwards through this whole period because of basic mismanagement - the likes of which in a corporate environment would see shareholder sell up.

We are in the position we're in because Labour did little of merit to set us up for bad times. They are, in essence, the fair weather party and little else.

who else is sick of fish boy's stupid rants? we should have a poll.

Some of the national supporters including Rob have had some equally stupid rants.

It is significantly affected by stewardship of the country, particularly in the areas of exports, business growth (e.g. tax breaks for certain growing or high potential industries etc or for investors in them) - areas which Labour ignored for short term gain in more social spending.

Ideally we should have both but Labour preferred to defer putting in effort on things which had a chance of improving our lot in the future for things which keep people happier in the now.

I'll bite... what didn't Labour do that National will?
