Nas at Brixton Academy - London 21/03/2005

Well this never happened to me in Takapuna or Ponsonby...

I went to this gig last night in South London. What do you know but someone started firing a gun inside the venue. They were near the back by the stalls and the exit so my girl & I stayed put by the sound booth.

First two shots before anyone really clicked as Nas was in full flight. Another shot then there was a mass rush sideways across the venue away from the shots. Ns & his DJ got off stage quick smart. After the shooting stopped and the panic subsided the DJ came back with Quan (Nas' fellow touree). After a while Nas came back out (with shirt off) and resumed peforming. No mention was made at all of the shooting. It went on for 5 more minutes or so until he left the stage and the DJ announced the police were outside and it was over due to the shots.

I had my bag searched twice on the way in. Once before I was scanned with one of those metal detector wands and once again inside the door before ticketing.

Absolutely wicked concert though. Played a medley of tracks off 'It Was Written', 'Got Myself a Gun (ironically) and 'One Mic' off 'Stillmatic', 'Streets Disciple' and 'Theif's Theme' off 'Streets Disciple' and of course 'Halftime', 'One Love' and 'The World is Yours' off 'Illmatic'.

I was hoping to hear 'Nas Is Like' off 'I Am', 'Bridging the Gap' off 'Street's Disciple' and 'Represent' off 'Illmatic. Who knows what else would have been played had it not been prematurely ended.
