Do you ever hear a certain name on the radio or out and about and just think that kids gonna be a shit when they are older?

Cheynade, Destiny, Junior, Chardonnay etc
[quote]
The way I think of names is.. in the corporate environment would I take someone called that seriously.

My daughter's name is Kyra, which is quite normal I wouldn't have ever considered calling her anything
out of the ordinary or made up it is really selfish to call kids names like that imo.

If I had a boy I would have called him Nathaniel.. Nat for short.

I'm in a super bad mood today so stupid names irk me more than usual.

[quote]
How could you not take Indiana seriously?

A friend of mine called her daughter Chauntayne a few years back. We no longer speak.
[quote]
indiana, montana... fuck that shit

I prefer names employed by the royals

Edward, Kate, Charles, Pippa et al are proper

Indiana: serious bidness.

Purely from her experience of kids she has had to work with....it's hardly concrete fact for across the board Wink

Crying or Very sad

google suggests she's not alone

quote:
According to a survey, more than one in three teachers expect children with certain names to be badly behaved before even meeting them, with the top three naughtiest boy's names ranking as Callum, Connor and Jack, while the unruliest girl's titles were found to be Chelsea, Courtney and Chardonnay.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2009/sep/08/baby-names-popular-chart

I'd suggest that if there is any correlation between the letter of the name and behaviour it would be a reflection on the parents socio and cultural makeup rather than the name itself

saying that who calls their son bigdogcunt?

refer Viz

Unfortunately, there will be a heavy amount of confirmation bias here too, which is only bad for the kids. I recall another study around expectation/perception where kids new to a class were randomly split into two groups and the teachers were told "this group of kids aren't that bright" or whatever, and the opposite of the other group. And at the end of the term, the "bright" kids got significantly better grades...

Nat for short.

That will never happen. Well not unless people change a lot over the next few years. I've been a Nathan for 30 years now and it's only ever Nate (with the occasional addition of 'dogg' to the end) or, as I prefer, Nath (said Nayth). Saying 'Nat' implies that your son's name is Natalie. Which would still be preferable to calling ones' child Chardonnay.

(For fuck's sake who are these people?)

Confused

gc.
[quote]
Yeah I'm assuming she meant Nate, as Nat is undoubtedly a girls name.
[quote]
Yeah I mean Nate that's a good nickname.. or short name

I always wanted people to call me Lee.. but that doesn't happen it's just Lisa.

My friend called her son Jett and another friend called her son Ocean. We are westies but c'mon seriously that is just fkd up.

I was supposed to be called Louisa but yeah... I think mum spelt it wrong or something not sure but my cousin has that name now. I'm gutted cos I could have been Lou for short.. how cute is that Sad
[quote]
I think that for sure. Not directly because of the name, but because I know if the parents named their kid something like that, they almost certainly won't be any good at being parents.

What about Loulou?

I was gonna be George but my parents decided I wasn't a George when I was born.

You think Nathaniel is an unusual name? Kyra isn't particularly common, but I wouldn't class it silly either.

I should look through our student management system for some great examples.

I wish my parents had made the same decision with me. Having the extra G in front of my name is annoying!

oh dear, my name begins with J Sad does that mean I was a problematic child?... most likely I was/am. Sad I was going to be Bronwyn.... don't like that name... reminds me of a 1960's ginga. No idea why.

And if I was a boy it was to be Duncan. :/
[quote]
kyra.... normal... what.planet.

Only acceptable names for girls are Catherine, Victoria, Elizabeth, and possibly Rebecca although it's always been too jewy for me.

Same with boys... only acceptable to name them after powerful / important historical figures. So you have John, Richard, James, Alexander etc (and of course my first name too)....

Bernice? Razz
[quote]
well I didn't mean that literally, there are a few others.. Bernice would maybe be one of them, because of Berenice was the first queen of one of the most important dynasties of Egypt, so it count's because it's a name of an important historical figure.

My friend knows a dude in Canada that changed his name to Park Bench. By deed poll. Serious business.

Naming your child after alcohol is just sad Sad

My parents thought about naming me Roxanne, but I guess they thought the better of it. I was also going to be Vanessa, but they didnt want my initials to be VD. Im glad they put some serious thought into it.

A few years back I heard some woman call her (about four years old) daughter "Paris Hilton" at Onehunga Dressmart.

Poor kid.

But my REAL pet hate is mis-spelling Jarrod - Jarryd/ Jarrad/ Jarred/Jared/ etc etc. FFS, your name will forever be a monument to your parents illiteracy.
[quote]
if the parent has picked and written the name on the registry papers (or whatever they do) then surely one can't accuse them of misspelling?

Maicon Douglas says otherwise (Brazilians can't spell Michael).

Parents who want their children to have supposedly 'unique' names can go fuck themselves.
If I have kids they'll have boring but solid christian first names and preferably no middle names.
Their deeds and exploits shall make them unique.
I'm going to train them as ninjas.
[quote]
ninjas aren't unique though

Agree that spastic spellings suck, but Jared is the right one! Laughing

Jarrod is a bastardisation of the proper Biblical name Jared...and there's a heap of related names which are prefectly valid

Spelling Michelle as Meshal is a better example of retarded spellings

I have a bastardised name spelling. Sad
