Naked people on beaches.

The Kapiti District council is considering allowing nudity along 45km of its coastline.

I am all for the Bill of Rights and am certainly not pro PC or anything, but to be quite honest I don’t want to see your bits and pieces hanging out on public show. That really is the bottom line.

What do we think? Would you participate?

Why should they have the right to impose their nudist views on me? And why do they deem it necassary to allow nudity along 45km of prime coastline?

'Prime coastline' beacause nudist beaches are usually isolated, but the Kapiti coast is certainly not isolated.

Why cant the council designate an area to exhibitionists? That would be the simple answer.

So having actually read this now, I can see their logic for at least considering it. Legal support for banned nudity is shaky and lies in the realms of "offensive and lewd behaviour" - which the council has made clear would not be acceptable. So in fact a bylaw against it could be challenged in court.

If it's not offensive or lewd, then where's the problem?

Loads of spots down that way, esp Peka Peka have been known as nudie beach areas for years.

fact is, on about 14 days a year, its nice as down there. Rest of the time, its windy as fook.

I think its great promotion for the sunsmart campaign.

I used to surfcast off St Leonards on the shore where there was one nearby and would routinely see gay/guys jacking off in the distance/getting it on

Same goes for that one near Long Bay when doing the cliff walk

+ The one near mission bay gets numerous complaints over deparved behaviour. I dont mind te nudist beaches really, thats fine. But 45 kms? NO

I've never seen anything of the sort at the one near long bay... maybe it was like that when you were younger when things like beats were still popular, but the gay scene has changed a lot since then...

regardless, that sort of behaviour is illegal nudist beach or not and I don't think making it clothing optional is gonna change anything.

Have you ever been to the Kapiti coast? on that 45km, is about all of 2-3 km in tiny spots that joe public and their kids use.

Rest of it is pretty isolated, and there isnt a huge amount of access points north of Waikanae. (peka peka and Te horo)

Besides, if Uncle Pervy gets down there with his ham sandwich, binoculars and vaseline, he'll get busted.

People have been rooting in the sand dunes on the Kapiti Coast for years anyhow.

fair call. I was in my early 20's when fishing @ St Leonards and late 20's when walking Long Bay with the ex. (I would just be mildey amused, but she haaaaated it) So it was quite some time ago

Long Bay is still going hard on the nudest thing. I went there in Feb during the week with a mate and if you walk around the corner from the main beach you get all sorts of weird ppl have a naked tan!
