From memory, just dragging them moves them from their original location. Click and drag, but before you release it, hold down control and keep it down until you have released the mouse button will copy it.
Note you can do this straight from the start menu.
As an aside for the keyboard shortcut, most people think WinKey+D and WinKey+M do the same thing, but they don't.
D minimises and selects the desktop, M just minimises. D is usually the one you want.
