Semd him to Delhi for the Commonwealth games with Gordon Teijens and the sevens squad.

The sevens will introduce him to a high level of rugby in a game that will show his strength, speed and power to advantage without confusing the poor wee morsel to much. He'll get a taste of high performance success in a NZ Rugby environment and hopefully like it and want more. SBW will get a nice shiny medal to dangle around his neck, and I am reliably informed that slimy Lebo's are quite partial to gold so that will keep his manager distracted for a while.

And lastly, but by no means leastly, GT's training regime will really sort that little shit out.
[quote]
Thats a teriffic solution. Although I can see SBW deserting the team after 2 days of training he's such a weak c**t.
[quote]
His shoulder would be wasted in 7s.

Should join the Warriors.
[quote]
Should play for North harbour so I can cheer even more when Benson Stanley SMASHES HIM BRO
[quote]
told off for going skiing whilst "recovering" from hamstring injury

just another bad/stupid/reckless decision in a whole career of bad/stupid/reckless decisions

massive LOL

LIKE! Very Happy
[quote]
ffs give the guy a break
[quote]
Yeah the skiiing thing really fucking retarded, clearly he's a long way from being the sharpest knife in the drawer.
[quote]
the best solution would be give the guy a chance and see how he goes on a proper flat field.
[quote]
omg SBW would eat Benson Stanley ALIVE and use James Helleur for a toothpick

This as good a chance as any to ask the question of the biggie "experts"....who thinks SBW will ake it as a rugby player and who thinks he will fail? Obviously what contitutes "success" is somewhat open to interpretation... but lets hears the answers nevertheless

* will make it
[quote]
I suspect he will but any professional athlete that goes skiing during the season he's meant to be playing whilst injured is clearly little more than a child in a grown ups body and will need constant supervision to keep him on track.
[quote]
he went down the beginners slopes "a couple of time"

this is such a non issue but as usual, NZ media have made a mountain out of a molehill. Once he gets to play a full game on a field without rabbit holes, like the one he played club rugby on a few weeks ago (resulting in the hamstring strain), he'll smoke!
[quote]
gotta agree with micarl -- it's a fkn non-issue really...

Dude is gonna carve up once he gets out on teh paddock imo :>

(And then sign up for the Warriors in 2012 Very Happy )
[quote]
Umm it's a huge issue dangerous past times like skiiing, riding motorcycles, mountain climbing hang gliding are off limits for professional athletes (barring those that compete in those sports of course), because of the elevated risk of serious injury. In many sports athletes are contracually forbidden from taking part in such past times, I guess the NZRFU has to take some blame for putting too much faith in its players though and not spelling things out in black and white.
[quote]
Did you see the field he was playing on during his club game the other week?

That was a bigger hazard than skiing ON THE BEGINNERS SLOPE a couple of times. The hamstring strain proof of this.

Haven't we done this topic like 3 times?

Sorry, but it IS a massive issue.
Skiing is extremely dangerous simply due to the lack of stability. We aren't talking going for a quiet walk, or even a swim, but engaging in a sport in which he is highly likely to fall over - yet more sprain on his hamstrings

Umm, there were 29 other players on that field.
Is he THAT soft?
[quote]
He's just too big for a lumpy field full pot holes. Probably the first time he's played on such a crap pitch.....ever?
[quote]
He is getting better and better. So, if he gets the AB call-up who doees he push out? Nonu or Smith?
[quote]
Nonu for sure.

We'll need Smith there to keep the defensive line in check and direct his positional play

Fruean >>>> daylight >>> SBW
[quote]
Ummm how about neither, we'll stick with our best centre combination for years and use SBW off the bench.
[quote]
Yeah not likely. SBW will be pulling on a AB's jersey pretty soon ...

Why not give Robbie Fruean a chance? He's been utterly dominant
[quote]
I would much rather have Fruean on the plane as a utility player than take Sonny Bill Williams.,,,

Lets see: IRB Player of the Year- Check.
An influential member of a World Championship Winning Team- Check
Current form = Awesome

What has SBW done? Played two years in the yawnfest that is Northern hemisphere Rugby and a handful of ITM games

Umm..he's won an NRL premiership and played for the Kiwis and been a genuine superstar in the toughest rugby competition in the world. Just sayin'.
[quote]
I doubt SBW will be first choice 12 or 13 by years end or even the world cup -- Nonu and Smith have just been too dominant to break them up.

He'll probably get a run on end of year tour though, and if he really impresses who knows?

lol. this.

Besides....Who says its Fruen vs SBW ? take both, but if you cant take both...... take SBW. duh

and wtf the is the "IRB player of the year" award anyway Confused Some plastic trophy a non international dude won running round in a 3rd rate rugby comp? You gotta be kidding me
[quote]
Take someone unproven in his sport over someone who has had years in the game, someone who has worked his way up the ranks from Club Rugby, knows the laws, knows how to run lines and work moves, can hold the ball properly and has been in blinding form.......

But

Take SBW -because he was good at another sport????

WTF.

He has shown to have deficiencies and still hasn't learnt and implemented the basics of the game (diving 3 metres before the try line, getting isolated, letting in two tries in one game etc.)

heh, i really don't get all the SBW hate either.

Lazydog, you're fkn dreaming if you can't see SBW's worth to the ABs...

[quote]
Great article that pretty much lays out where the haters are coming from.

I can literally see the various expressions on your face vadz as this guy reads your soul Razz

MG DONT HATE HIS COS HE'S BEAUTIFUL

quote:
You can be forgiven for not liking him.

I don't want to like him, not somebody this unfairly talented.

With his super-charmed life, those looks, the insane ability, the international media profile.

All style and magazine shoots and adoring young fans.

And now the monster that is Canterbury rugby has beat up its brave little Southland cousins, he has the Ranfurly Shield to play with as well.

Hardly seems fair when the snow-shovelling, real men of the South lose their most treasured possession to guys like him from Canterbury.

After all, with the All Black end-of-year tour and then a bit of R&R on some stunning beach somewhere, how much time will he spend in Canterbury over the summer to even see the shield? It must rankle the southern men even more knowing the glamour boy can always pop down to rugby headquarters in Christchurch and gel up his perfect hair in the shield's reflection.

Yes, it would be easy not to like him.

A man so outrageously blessed he was destined to wear the black jersey from the time he was old enough to drive.

A man so special he can skive off to go play for some Frog team nobody had ever heard of, leaving his mates at Canterbury to fend for themselves.

And then he returns to New Zealand to a guaranteed All Black jersey.

And he has the guile to do all this while enjoying his life. Being happy, learning languages. The modelling, the topless photo shoots.

It is easy to dislike a man like this. A man who plays a sport that is supposed to take a heavy physical toll, but still looks like an Adonis.

It is easy to not like this man, knowing your girlfriend might occasionally catch a glance of him on TV or a billboard and then consider buying you the Abmaster 2000.

What makes it worse is knowing that, if you played golf with him, he's the sort of guy who would downplay his exploits, be polite and funny. Then outdrive you by 50 metres.

He's the sort of guy whose friends call him by his initials. I mean really, what sort of rugby player is that? You wouldn't have heard Colin Meads or Wayne Shelford getting called by some silly nickname, would you?

This is rugby, not boxing, after all.

And yet he's always so self-effacing on television, with that constant smile, boy-next-door manners and the trendy clothes.

Yes, it is easy to dislike a man like this.

And why Canterbury? Why is he playing for the red-and-blacks, who have so much talent in his position alone, when he could have come to Auckland.

We wanted him, but instead he plays for the one team that could win without him. And we all know, he is far more Auckland than Canterbury.

You know what makes this envy worse. He will soon be jetting off to the Northern Hemisphere with the All Blacks, where he will destroy his opponents and further boost his asking price for his post World Cup-career.

And when he gets there, he will have that other glamour boy outside him.

That one called Sonny Bill Williams.

Yes, it would be easy not to like a man like Dan Carter.

A man who has done all those things you just read and yet is just still on his way to rugby sainthood.

But of course nobody dislikes Carter. Because he's a great guy. Because he plays his rugby like a violent ballet, has bled for his country and because you know the next year of his life is dedicated to winning us the World Cup.

Which makes you wonder why some people - rugby traditionalists they call themselves - dislike Sonny Bill Williams. And want to see him fail so they can say "we told you so".

When you think about it, are DC and SWB really that different?

Sure, one is already an All Black legend but the other one hasn't had that chance yet. Yet.

And considering how SBW has conducted himself on and off the field since coming home, what's not to like?

Unless of course you come from Southland, because he just stole your shield.

gg pssssst
[quote]
DC never betrayed his team mates by running out on his contract

I can't believe you people can ignore that so easily.

A man's word is his BOND. How many thousands of British died in WW1 because the SWORE they would protect Belgium, and they did that?

The word "better" requires examination here. If it means "Has Fruen played better than SBW in the NPC?"...... then I would say the two players have been of roughly equal value to their side, and in much different ways.

If the defniition is "Is SBW or Robbie Fruen more likely to be BETTER at crushing all international midfield competition and helping us win the RWC?"...then the answer is OBVIOUSLY Sonny Bill Wiliams

I really dont understand how this is hard to grasp mate..... that goes for you too LazyDawg. Wise up. We NEED SBW to succeed. I also think part of the hate directed at him has to do with NPC Stalwarts resenting the fact that SBW throws its players around like ragdogs. Well...thats because he's awesome. He threw people around in the NRL too. So get over it

man...you guys are gonna do it so tough if he does play a central role in winning the World Cup and he iinstantly becomes an All Black LEGEND Smile

SBW coming on with 20 minutes to go in test match will be a wonder to behold! Very Happy
