I found an old Sonophone amp, turntable and speakers (the speakers are 'Ultimate' brand) at the New Lynn Sallies the other day for $30.

The amp is a Sonophone Stereophonic Integrated Amplifier D 4020 Mark III. See photo. Its a really choice looking thing, analogue gauges and stuff.....

So my first question - Is the amp any good? Someone told me that sonophone used to make quite good valve amps, but thats all i know.

Second question - It has some silly connections that are no help to me. See photo:

The one on the left is a speaker connection. A bit hard to see, bit its a single round prong with a single rectangular vertical prong next to it.

The one on the right is the connection on the end of the turntable. 5 circular prongs arranged in a semi-circle.

So, question #2 - If i cut the turntable plug off, stick the plug into the AUX input on the back of the amp, splice some regular RCA connections to the other end of the wire, if i plug my mixer into those RCA connections, would it work?

And the same question, but with the speakers too.....

Churs in advance

Plugs - in theory. Its just going to be a challenge figuring out what plug goes where...

I had a Sonophone amp years and years ago - I think it was about 15 or 30 WRMS. It had a wooden case unlike your metallic one. Wasnt too bad actually (for a poor student as I was then)

Those are DIN connections

That link says Naim still use them, so they cant be too bad - Naim are hi-end stuff! - so I would imagine you can get DIN converters to allow connectivity
