CLARITY
I've had mixed responses to this post when I've been out and about.
FAQ
Q) Are you crazy?
A) Yes. Look at the world we live in, if you're not crazy you must have problems. The main issue I am combating is apathy - I'm sure anyone who has spent time in Hamilton is familiar with apathy.
Q) How much do you want for your turntables?
A) Originally I set no reserve, and gave an open offer to users of this forum to make their own minds up what they were willing to pay. I was thinking about NZ$1,300 would be OK, one guy has offered me NZ$1,00. I've since considered it more thoroughly, and have now placed them on Trade Me where they seem to average about NZ$850 a piece s/h or NZ$1249 a piece new. I paid NZ$2548 for them in April 1999. A friend of mine was more than happy to pay NZ$1,600 three years ago for a similar deal. I think the new offer is fair to the buyer and the seller.
Q) Have you given up DJing?
A) No. I'm keeping my mixer, and headshells. I have other record players on hand to listen to my vinyl. I am keeping a large chunk of my collection, but I have been trading vinyl for the last four months, and thought I'd pass on some deals to Hamilton DJs old and new alike, since there is no longer a record store to service the market. I am pursuing bookings locally personally, and have a business partner who is helping me in the Auckland scene, but will consider out of town agents offers on a 20% split of my fee, which is a good rate for an agent.
Q) So what vinyl do you have?
A) I've got mixed bins of stuff, I'm writing a full list at the moment, and should be done later in the week.
Q) Do you have a crack habit?
A) I understood this to mean 'P', as crack cocaine is not a common thing in this part of the world. The short answer is NO. I have been offered the substance on several occasions, and have not tried it. I have never purchased it. I do not intend to try or buy. To go one step further, I have a T-Shirt that says 'Pointless' which I was asked to wear at gigs by a Wellington radio station about this time last year. I do wear the shirt at gigs.
Q) Do you got any trips for sale?
A) No.
Q) What are you going to do with the money?
A) Not that it should be anyone's business to know how I spend my money, but, I'm going travelling. I can't take my turnies with me, so I might as well use the cash to fund my journey. I want to go through Melbourne up to the UK to see the family castle, and catch up with some of the originators of the Hamilton electronic music scene who are still active in the London underground rave scene.
Q) When are you going?
A) At this rate, not any time too soon. I'd like to enjoy this coming summer in New Zealand.
