This weekend marks the biggest thong-fest of the year for the bodybuilding world. A totally wrong collection of the biggest drug users in any sport (if you can call it a sport!) strutting thier stuff over two days of grunting and flexing. I'll try and find a suitable link to the commpetitor lists so the un-initiated can have a look at the modern day Arnolds.

The biggest question this year? Can Jay Cutler win again, or will Phil Heath or Kai Greene take it in the battle everyone is expecting. At any rate, this years winner will weigh over 125kg, with absolutely no sub-cutaneous water, and a bodyfat level of around 2%. At least 2 competitors will collapse backstage!

Probably not many people's cup of tea round here, but I'm sure mikem will be interested. Will post a pic of the winner just to gross the masses out.

Do these bodybuilding governing bodies even make a superficial effort to control for drug use?

They tried to make an effort a few years back, banning diuretics in 1993 I think. There had been a few of the big names absolutely fuck themselves by having zero water on board. Try taking a few lasix pills and not drinking anything plus the whole sodium loading effort, and being able to function normally. It doesn't happen. That year the Olympia was pretty average, competitors were a lot smoother, not as ripped and dry as normal. Not much of a spectacle really.

As far as other drugs, testosterone, GH, thyroid hormones etc, no, I don't think the IFBB (professional governing body) has ever bothered. From a business perspective it would just ruin everything. Typing this I feel a bit guilty about watching these dudes who are taking years off their lives with the stupid amounts of shit they use!

The Olympia really is a circus. It's a huge marketing vehicle for Joe Weider and co, the winner is usually not the best man there. Still fun to watch though.

Not a great top ten preview, but gives you some idea of the competitors. My pick is Phil Heath to win.

Are there 'natural' body building competitions that are more heavily regulated and tested?

Confused
