So I've been thinkign that this is clearly the Kinks, who should by rights be considered up there there with the Stones in terms of influence. Sure they were quite successful and most people know them because of Lola, but there's so much more to them than a song about a dude in a dress.

For example:

Those are from 1964 and 1965!!!! They were rocking out like that while the Beatles still sounded like the f**king Monkeys.

A little less rocky, but note the slide guitar long before Duane Allman carved a guitar out of an old tree stump:

Also probably the coolest song to feature a girls name in the title.

Basically the Kinks > who you were thinking.

I LOVE The Kinks.

Randomplay once famously played a Kinks song at a Breakers Delight, me wanting to talk to him about it is what made us become friends heh.

Yeah I like the kinks Smile

I will reconsider them for greatness but am concerned the thread writer wants to elevate their status just because they are cockneys and probably like football

There is a reason why they are underrated...

Beg to differ

The Kinks were never under-rated

Always been name checked by peers and up and comers
[quote]
Kinks legacy lost.... until they put a donk on it they're just history forgot

never under-rated as NR says - perhaps just not highly regarded amongst the pill popping generation(s)

needs more wibble wobble

kill me please

I agree - The Kinks have always been respected and referred to by their peers and subsequent musicians, but Jono maybe has a small point when it comes to the younger generation.

you could apply the younger generation don't know tag to so much music from days gone by, which is possibly a reflection on how we both learn about and consume music in todays world

teh nu soul generation need to go back and listen to the real mcoy...a s do the nu funk mob

there's more to it than facial hair
