Steve Hill or Freq Nasty.

Also I thought Dan Aux was an Aussie?

Also lol Nick D, it ays DJ not TV preseter/radio personality. He's a good DJ but nowhere near our mos successful in terms of his DJing, the fact he's polling so highly is a poor indictment of the voters.
[quote]
I'd have to say that Zane Lowe is probably the most successful. He's massive in the UK
[quote]
I'ver always considered Zane more of a radio personality than a DJ but maybe I just didn't hear about his gigs.
[quote]
Seems a bit disingenuous having people like Dick Johnson or Recloose in the poll. It's a meaningless poll though so meh.
[quote]
Who the fuck is Zane Lowe??? Never fucking heard of him

Steve Hill and Freq Nasty porbably, but did either really "make it" IN New Zealand?

As for DJs actually making a name IN NZ, and then taking it to the world, it'd be really hard to argue against Sample Cheese being right up there...I see he's polling at 1% though Laughing

Greg Churchill would the true NZ DJ I RATE the most, but overall overseas success hasn't been that great...doubtful anyone even in Aussie really knows who he is

Radio1 dj insanity innit?

Why do they have to make it in NZ?

Well, they don’t, it’s not my poll…I just think it’d be an odd one to say Freq Nasty, as an example, was “NZ’s most successful DJ” when he never even started DJ’ing in NZ (don’t know if he did or didn’t, just saying)

Simon Flower, if he can be considered a dj rather than live performer

Possibly Emerson Todd. Although he was born in Aussie he spent a lot of his teenage years in NZ and he's managed to have an RA podcast, if that's of any value
[quote]
Actually turns out Emerson Todd was born in NZ so we can claim him as one of our own.

This would have been my call too.

I saw Zane Lowe play a gig I was working at in Welli a few New Years ago.. He was nothing special, just that big party sound that a million other DJs play. Beatport top 10 much?
[quote]
zane lowe most certainly in relation to that poll....

remember DJ can be many things - mixing tunes is but one of them

[quote]
This is true. And really, tis but a popularity contest, yes?
[quote]
Well no, it's about success on the international stage (certainly not if you think the DJ is anything special).

Granted most people won't get that though.
[quote]
every poll/competitionaward that require a public vote is nothing more than a popularity contest

to think it has any merit... well you'd have to work for the herald
[quote]
Zane Lowe no doubt. Supports fat boy slim, prodigy etc. Plays at the worlds biggest festivals.
[quote]
Some of the DJs rated in this thread are a total jokes in terms of DJing ability.

In terms of success: Zane or Freq.. no-one else is worth mentioning.

1. Sample Gee
2. Sample Gee
3. Sample Gee

Mr Bishi, Nylon, Steve Hill, Volts Wagen, Neon Lights, Phlash! and Nu Renegades.. probably more but they are all him (or he is part of?)

I would have to agree with Steve and Freq and while I hadn't heard of Zane Lowe a quick google suggests he is a valid contender.

Sample Gee has to get Kudos.. at least in New Zealand..

Theres some noteworthy and respectable DJ's on that list...

Theres also some others who are either deluded about themselves.. or there to make up the numbers Smile

mt eden dubstep obviously

Are you serious? He's only the most successful DJ to come out of NZ by a long shot.

If we are talking only about club DJs then he wouldn't feature though.

Some of the people on that list have been pretty successful in their own musical niche / scene and it gets pretty hard to compare between them. Presha should be on the list, as a pure DJ (ie not a DJ producer) he's been a rare international export
[quote]
defining "successful" might be a good start.
[quote]
freq nasty and steve hill are producers as well as dj's and i'd say if they weren't producing they wouldn't be as big as they are so for most successful 'DJ' im gonna go with zane lowe. he had his own tent at the gate crasher i went too. the 'home taping' show is pretty big in the U.K

Max TV - auckland thing
Breakers Co-op - refer lazy sunday
Radio One UK / MTV Europe - seriosuly infulential disc jockey which leads to side order of gigs and festivals globally

he'd be a household name in the UK...

if we use the coronation effect to determine fame and sucess.... Zane is the only name listed who has a remote chanceof a pint onair in the rovers return

You forgot Urban Disturbance too.
[quote]
Oh and the answer to the main question is quit obviously Joyloins.
[quote]
I think Zane is more into his radio/tv presenting than playing gigs these days... I've seen his name on a couple of line ups, not many though.
