Who has been to Morocco?

We will be there for about a week starting in Casablanca ending in Tangier. Can anyone recommend a possible itinery? Should we go to Marrakesh? Or just straight up to Tangier? What would be the best transport, and should we go camel back riding??! Smile

Also can anyone recommend some good travel writing books about Morocco? Very Happy

I wouldn't spend more thhan a night in Casablanca. It's just a big dirty city with slums all around it. A walk through the slums is interesting and down to the mosque. The mosque is very impressive but kind of bizarre when you figure it cost $800,000,000 to build and right across the road you have some of the poorest people in the country.

We hired a car from Casa and drove down the coast staying in fishing village after fishing village for a few nights, then came back inland towards Marrakesh and up to the Atlas mountains for a night. I would definitely reccomend Marrakesh for a few days. Loads to do there. I'd only reccomend driving there if you love chaos though Wink

Casablanca is boring compared to the rest of Morocco.

spend your time in Marrakech, Fez, go thru the Atlas Mountains and to Essaouira.

I did a tour with travel talk. with the amount of hassle I got as a blond girl I wouldn't want to have to try and sort out my own travel (altho I did get a bus to and from Essaouira from Marrakesh)

as for camels..... only if you're super keen!! they're good for about 20 mins and then I was more than happy to get off!!

oooh whilst I'm on the camel topic. The best part of the tour for me was seeing the sunrise over the Sahara desert. We had to ride the camel to get there so whilst I'm not that keen on the camels the chance to see the sunrise made up for it!!

hi, yes I went with travel Talk. They were pretty good altho our tour guide waffled on a lot!! He knew soooo much information that he was constantly talking and exlpaining things the long way!! We stayed in decent standard places and it was an amazing holiday. Some of the food places they suggest are more geared towards tourists so one suggestion I have is look for food places that the locals visit. much cheaper and a more genuine experience.

oohh Skip, forgot to put which tour I did. I did the Essential Tour & added a couple of extra days in Marrakesh. The Adventure Tour must be new as they didn't have that when I went a year ago. just looked at it on their website and that sure sounds like an adventure!! The Sahara is awesome.

another tip is take that hand gel stuff and make sure you have toilet paper or lots of tissues. the toilets are not the nicest in most places......
