So, I'm moving to Montreal in August and want to know if anybody knows much about the scene over there?

Anybody know of any artists from Montreal?

I reckon they would probably have one of the strongest scenes in North America outside of Detroit, Chicago and NYC.

Radioslave on June 7

bambina who used to post on this site and promoted one or two good kompakt nights would be the one to advise if she were still around but I think she is missing presumed elsewhere

berlin is a good place to begin your searches - seems tout le techno monde is there these days

She got into breakcore..

Questionable music choices aside I see her from time to time, shes still in Auckland afaik.

Robert I think as far as Canada goes Montreal would be the shit - Mutek + the likes of akufen, jeff milligan, cobblestone jazz (and wagon repair records), the mole, mike shannon, steve beaupre all come from Montreal.

I dunno how many of them are still based there - seem to remember reading one of the above recently lamenting the fact a lot of people had moved over to Europe. But hopefully there's still interesting stuff going on Music

it was a few months ago when I listened to a torrid bambina diatribe about how suckful Auckland was and how she was heading off to Paris I think. But hey I dont know what actually happened.
Misstress Barbara is from Montreal originally.

If you're a connoisseur of electronic beats you should like Montreal. I've been lucky enough to be sent there for work a few times lately and haven't been disappointed. Events seem to range from the largeness of Piknic Electronik (thnk 1000 mad ravers at -25'C outdoors!) down to a few dozen punters huddled around turntables in a loft. Having said that, the local producers don't seem to play out (live) very much, though word is this apparently has most to do with fikkle club management... Still, you get plenty of internationals and the crowds seem pretty open-minded, you even meet some people who don't know a lot about the artist but have come along for a listen anyhow - I like that.

Best residency tip, checkout the Microzoo fellas at Salon Daome every 2nd Tuesday, techhouse with emphasis on the "tech" and it can be incredibly phat. Don't be put off by the Tuesday aspect - its well worth the trek into town whatever the ambient temperature.

I'm suer after doing more time up there you'd get better inside knowledge, personally I'm always miffd' to be returned to Auckland after just getting to learn the venues. Be sure to post us a review if you make it.
