Somehow we've managed to get over Robert Henke aka Monolake this weekend, piggy backing of his Australian Tour.

If you are unsure, he is one of the pioneers (THE pioneer in my opinion) of true live electronic performance, heavily involved with the development and creation of the Ableton Live software over in Berlin, which the majority of live laptop acts (including myself) use to create their music.

He's a German fella, who plays techy, minimal housey techno electronica live, using Ableton controlled by a beast called the Monodeck, a custom made interface designed and built by Robert himself. Using this setup he synthesizes, layers and creates tracks improvised on the spot, ensuring every set from him is extremely unique.

He will be supported by myself, Alpharhythm and Turnstyle, who will also all be playing live, so if you are interested to see what the next step up from DJing is, this would definitely be an interesting experience for you.

This is all happening this Friday night at Double Happy, and costs $20 (Tickets from WEHQ on the corner of Bedford Row and Manchester St, or at the CPSA) or more on the door.

The Mixtape DJs will be playing funkier stuff in the front room if you find you need a break from all the techy stuff.

As well as the club gig, he is hosting a workshop at CPIT on Thursday at 2pm at the Imagitek Theatre, aimed at anyone who has an interest in digital audio production / performance. This is a two our workshop you don't wanna miss if you have any audiogeekyness in you.

Also, on Thursday night at 8pm at CPIT again (Level 2, E Block), Robert will be performing his art installation "layering buddha", where 6 hifi speaker stacks are strategically placed around a dark room, while the audience sits in the middle as Robert controls the sound from each individual speaker, going on a true surround journey through the digital audio relm. This will be $10 on the door or $5 if you are a student.

So, if you have ever had any interest in the more technical side of electronic music, and want something a bit more intellectually stimulating than the usual drunken club gig, make your plans to attend any one or all of these three events.

More info can be found at http://monolake.cosm.co.nz/ or http://www.monolake.de

Let me know if you have any questions.

Exciting stuff
