Cricket: Windies concentrating on playing
Former Warwickshire batsman Andy Moles was today appointed Cricket New Zealand's new coach for the Black Caps.

Moles will takeover from current coach John Bracewell next week and has been given the job until the 2011 World Cup.

His first task will be against the West Indies who arrive in New Zealand next month.

I think this has been the *worst* part of the IPL for us. Usually we get some decent candidates, but this guy is basically the best who applied (and didn't pull out). He doesn't have any track record, and could be way out of his depth. We might end up wishing Bracewell didn't take off so early... it's a pretty critical time in our development.

BTW, the next match is also Bracewell's last. He's agreed to leave early.

He is teh ND coach. Took us from bottom to top in 1 year. Other than that not sure i have heard too much else about him. Think he played for Warickshire(sp) and also coached there under bob woolmer. Also think he spent a bit of time at Orange Free State? and Scotland?

Interesting choice, he's had a hard road with the past int(second tier) teams, but i think he will take a more back seat approach in conjunction with Danny rather than the dominating style of Bracewell. He's worked with Bob Woolmer, and i think though his credentials are light, this is pretty much the big chance in his life to prove himself, so i imagine he will come in with a pretty awesome attitude. I also see his selection as being a nod towards focusing more on our test cricket, with the ODI stuff pretty much taking care of itself. A few guys i play with who know of Moles say he is a very astute tactician in the longer forms of the game, and a nuggety solid character, which i think is probably what we need after the flamboyant inconsistencies of the Braces era. Anyhoo, we shall see.

Without having ever heard of him there is no doubt in my mind he will be better than Bracewell

Top order is a key strength of his apparently, good news.
