as a house/techno dj who is looking to play more hiphop sets i was wanting to get some advise in regards to methods and techniques for mixing hiphop.
because the tempo's vary so much from track to track then you obviously cant always rely on beatmixing each tune u play, so therefore what are the most common - and straight forward methods of linking hip hop tunes together in a club set.

go to some hiphop gigs and watch the dj !. track selection is the most important thing, knowing what shit mixers well and what doesn't the tricks come later . remeber dont judge the clash on how bad it is but how they recover from it a mistake can be turned into a cool trick !, with hiphop mixing any way! peace ! To know ya tunes in side out is good but is hard with new records. Early to mid ninetys hip hop can generally be quite fast and old school slow for a rule of thumb.

Staton decks are good with the alternative pitch rate, but most clubs have 1200's

Otherwise just know when to chiga chiga drop dat shi blower

BPM your records!
this can be done on a pioneer mixer. Then just write it on a lil label.
That way you know what goes with what.
mixing hiphop is probably one of the most fun. but they generally have to be really quick due to not wanting vocal clashes unless of course you are rocking an instramental. I always listen to start of the record im about to mix in and then think where it would soung good coming in to the one playing. good luck!
Cool

it seems like quite a few hip hop djs do the quick cut from one track to another. with a few scratches from the incoming track to tease it.
i'm just mucking around and guessing from listening to mix cds tho.

That's what even the likes of Craze did (aside from the full on beat-juggling, but that's a TOTALLY different kettle of Fishy )
