Mixing Hip Hop

How the hell do you do it?
What is the principle idea behind it?
I'm lost.....

blending (mixing) 2 songs together... radio usually uses the 'fade', while at clubs you'll hear tracks 'beat matched' ie one track's tempo changed to match the other one... that's what the pitch slider does...

Yes, I know all this. Its just hip hop seems to be a lot harder to mix than everything else.

Yes it is, personally i blame Grand master Flash. For being far too good far too early in the piece

I guess the principal is the same as mixing any type of music, its just that dance music is more dj friendly. I think you have to get to know your records alot more if you want to mix hip hop.

i think hiphop is the hardest type of music to mix cos the bpms vary from 90 to 120 and trying to get a 120 and 90 mixed well is a mission for me.

dance music is simple most of them work off 4/4 beats.

best bet to learn how to mix is getting those funky mix, wikked mix and chicken scratch records. they have 30 sec intros and outros to help you learn to beatmatch.

and.. don't buy a bpm counter they're a waste of money.

why are you even trying to mix those 2 together>???

try and mix tracks that are similar in speed
usually only go +3 or -3 for them to sound close to original

to get from 90 bpms to 120 thats 30bpms faster
its not going to happen unless you scratch it in or do a turn the table off styles

I recoomend you slowly mix in faster tracks and speed them up a litle each ime till you reach the speed you want

give up hip-hop and become a noise DJ... the more uneven the mix, the better it sounds.....
